The Past France, 1640. In a French coastal village during the Thirty Years War, Altheia de Savoir waits for her Scottish sailor love, Matthew, to return from the sea. But when marauders descend upon her village, Altheia barely escapes with her life. Matthew rescues her and takes her to Ireland, where she will be safe with his family. Though Matthew wishes to officially wed his lady love, he must honor his military obligations and return to Scotland. Then the unthinkable happens. Matthew is captured and left alone to die innocently in a dark and frozen Scottish dungeon, unable to communicate to Altheia. But Altheia and Matthew's love story is far from over ... The Present Southern California, present day. After she is summoned to jury duty, Collette Peters encounters Matthew McDonnell, a handsome and successful criminal defense attorney. The trial inspires her to become a forensic DNA investigator; a few years later, she meets Matthew again when his legal defense team contracts her to complete an investigation. Working together, Collette and Matthew find they share an intense attraction, but they are unaware of why they are so strangely drawn to each other. When they begin to piece together the clues, they realize the answer lies in the past and may very well lead to the love of their lives.

The Royal Society of Canada’s mandate is to elect to its membership leading scholars in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences, lending its seal of excellence to those who advance artistic and intellectual knowledge in Canada. Duncan Campbell Scott, one of the architects of the Indian residential school system in Canada, served as the society’s president and dominated its activities; many other members – historically overwhelmingly white men – helped shape knowledge systems rooted in colonialism that have proven catastrophic for Indigenous communities. Written primarily by current Royal Society of Canada members, these essays explore the historical contribution of the RSC and of Canadian scholars to the production of ideas and policies that shored up white settler privilege, underpinning the disastrous interaction between Indigenous peoples and white settlers. Historical essays focus on the period from the RSC’s founding in 1882 to the mid-twentieth century; later chapters bring the discussion to the present, documenting the first steps taken to change damaging patterns and challenging the society and Canadian scholars to make substantial strides toward a better future. The highly educated in Canadian society were not just bystanders: they deployed their knowledge and skills to abet colonialism. This volume dives deep into the RSC’s history to learn why academia has more often been an aid to colonialism than a force against it. Royally Wronged poses difficult questions about what is required – for individual academics, fields of study, and the RSC – to move meaningfully toward reconciliation.

The moonstones and the whalebones of Moonstone Beach swirl at the center of many local legends and myths, and as many warnings. Once known as the Travelers Stone, the moonstone was a rare and treasured amulet said to guard against the many perils of travel. Only found in a handful of locations in the world, the people of Moonstone Island, just off Californias southern coast, were so accustomed to seeing them that many had forgotten the stones magical protective powersand the cost of that protection. But ignorance is anything but bliss for the islanders, who do not know just how close they are to disaster. Those who have heard of the legend either write it off as a fairy tale or shamelessly exploit it for profit. Their fate lies in the hands of one bold and determined boy named Daniel. Just fourteen, his life is about to be pulled into an unimaginable quest to save the lives of everyone he knows and loves. Old Man Drake Clark is seen as a mostly harmless, potentially crazy, and unquestionably eccentric octogenarian, but Daniel knows that his old friend is privy to important knowledge. When he informs Daniel of his role in the legend, the teen must summon the courage to face his destiny. Daniel, his father Vincent, and his loyal Dalmatian Ernie set off on an epic quest filled with arduous challenges. If they succeed, they will fulfill the legend of the moonstones and restore peace and safety to their beloved island.

From the author of the Too Hot to Handle series comes an unconventional fairytale about a rebel prince and his curvy (soon to be) queen.
