We hear the distant echoes of piercing screams. Once, these screams rang through the flames. Now, they vibrate across burnt remnants, growing gradually softer in the smoke-fogged air. From the ashes, four survivors rise Ñ Dutch, Jin, Aletta, Aysi. The chosen ones, but not the only ones. Meanwhile, pure evil has come to Earth, hell-bent on destroying all who remain. What was once the world we called our home has become a sickening, frightening purgatory, its surfaces crawling with red-eyed creatures of sheer darkness. The human survivors find themselves lost, both in body and in soul. Where are they to go now, seeing as their home is not their own? And even if they manage to survive, can hope survive, as well? Amid all the despair, our four heroes hear a distant calling, a voice both soft and welcoming: ÒAngel Falls.Ó They are to go there. And perhaps, upon completing their treacherous journey, they will at last encounter some needed answers...

Up until the day the Angel Virus appeared, people of the world thought they knew the meaning of true terror. After all, they'd seen thousands of years of war, starvation, illness, and other forms of tragedy. Yet, the emergence of the Angel Virus brought about a deeper level of sorrow and a fiercer degree of trauma than any living person had dreamed existed. On the day the Virus came, all over the world, children suddenly began to die. The virus inflicted great grief on humanity, but humanity would not have time to mourn. A war between good and evil was soon to heat up. The Angel Virus is only the beginning of a battle that carries much more than earthly implications. This is a divine confrontation in a world buckled by despair, where the laughter of children has been silenced forever.

Amongst all families of marine fishes, the Angelfishes rank supreme for splashy color, markings and interesting behavior. Do you think that fishes are intelligent? I believe some like the Angels are; knowing of their own existence, remembering their territories, and at least some forming pair bonds and haremic associations; apparently for life. For saltwater aquarists, marine Angels span the breadth of "usability"; with some being small enough to be placed in nano-reefs, to others requiring systems of a few hundred gallons as adults. There are Pomacanthid species with more specialized nutrition needs; ones that feed mostly on sponges in the wild; others are more generalized planktivores, the majority omnivorous period. Similarly, some species are "hard as nails" given appropriate aquarium care, while other Angel species historically have historically fared very poorly in captivity.

During the struggle for decolonization, Frantz Fanon argued that artists who mimicked European aestheticism were “beginning at the end,” skipping the inventive phase of youth for a decadence thought more typical of Europe’s declining empires. Robert Stilling takes up Fanon’s assertion to argue that decadence became a key idea in postcolonial thought, describing both the failures of revolutionary nationalism and the assertion of new cosmopolitan ideas about poetry and art. In Stilling’s account, anglophone postcolonial artists have reshaped modernist forms associated with the idea of art for art’s sake and often condemned as decadent. By reading decadent works by J. K. Huysmans, Walter Pater, Henry James, and Oscar Wilde alongside Chinua Achebe, Derek Walcott, Agha Shahid Ali, Derek Mahon, Yinka Shonibare, Wole Soyinka, and Bernardine Evaristo, Stilling shows how postcolonial artists reimagined the politics of aestheticism in the service of anticolonial critique. He also shows how fin de siècle figures such as Wilde questioned the imperial ideologies of their own era. Like their European counterparts, postcolonial artists have had to negotiate between the imaginative demands of art and the pressure to conform to a revolutionary politics seemingly inseparable from realism. Beginning at the End argues that both groups—European decadents and postcolonial artists—maintained commitments to artifice while fostering oppositional politics. It asks that we recognize what aestheticism has contributed to politically engaged postcolonial literature. At the same time, Stilling breaks down the boundaries around decadent literature, taking it outside of Europe and emphasizing the global reach of its imaginative transgressions.
