Articles in this collection discuss women authors from East Germany, Austria, and the Federal Republic respectively. Two articles provide exemplary corrective readings of canonical literature and criticism. One is a very useful pedagogical article on film. The final two contributions are an East German social scientist's statements concerning anticipated changes in the study of women in that country, and an editor's postscript dealing with the impact that German reunification is likely to have on those issues that are of concern to feminist Germanists. As a serial publication, this yearbook provides a forum for feminist scholarship on any topic related to women in German literature and culture. This, the only feminist journal devoted to German studies, will be of interest to professors and students of German and/or women's studies, as well as of comparative literature, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Co-published with the Coalition of Women in German.

This is the first comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and multilingual bibliography on "Women and Gender in East Central Europe and the Balkans (Vol. 1)" and "The Lands of the Former Soviet Union (Vol. 2)" over the past millennium. The coverage encompasses the relevant territories of the Russian, Hapsburg, and Ottoman empires, Germany and Greece, and the Jewish and Roma diasporas. Topics range from legal status and marital customs to economic participation and gender roles, plus unparalleled documentation of women writers and artists, and autobiographical works of all kinds. The volumes include approximately 30,000 bibliographic entries on works published through the end of 2000, as well as web sites and unpublished dissertations. Many of the individual entries are annotated with brief descriptions of major works and the tables of contents for collections and anthologies. The entries are cross-referenced and each volume includes indexes.
