Excerpt from West's Moulder's d104-Book: Being Part II, of American Foundry Practice Although it is more than two years since the appearance of the first volume, the author cannot refrain from here tendering his most sincere thanks to the press and public of America and England for the cordial reception given his first book. Also, to American foundry men and moulders the author is greatly indebted for the universally rapid introduction of his work among them. The compliments which were so kindly tendered the first volume have encouraged and stimulated the author to write this second book. Many of the original articles here submitted, as in vol. i., appeared in "The American Machinist," and have been revised for this volume. Also, many of these articles have had valuable additions made to them. The subjects of Cupolas and Melting, also those of moulding in green sand, in dry sand, and in loam, are extensively treated; and this volume, in connection with vol. i., it is thought affords a thorough presentation of each subject.
