Information for this report is derived from published scientific literature, released hydrocarbon wells, and data collected during the BGS regional mapping programme of the UK Continental Shelf. It supplements the existing 1:250 000 map series and the area extends from the Dogger Bank in the north to the Dover Strait in the south. It is an area of considerable importance to the UK economy, sand and gravel is being dredged from the sea floor, and it should continue to be a major gas-producing region well into the 21st century.
