Therefore, to prevent the harmful effects of environmental contaminants, the development of newer and/or combined technologies for the remediation of contaminated water and wastewaters has been of great importance. This book presents bioremediation, membrane bioreactor and the Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) as other forms of water and wastewater treatment technologies. Bioremediation and membrane bioreactor are ecofriendly, effective and cheap methods of detoxification. The AOPs have also emerged as a set of versatile water and wastewater treatment techniques. AOPs have been widely applied for the removal of a wide range of contaminants including pharmaceuticals, dyes, surfactants, pesticides, herbicides, disinfection by-products, endocrine disrupting chemicals etc. However, there are still ongoing investigation on the impact of the oxidants used, nanoparticles/catalysts, and resultant metabolites on human health and the environment.
