Excerpt from United States Census of Business, 1954, Vol. 5: Selected Service Trades-Summary Statistics; Receipts Size, Employment Size, Single Units and Multiunits, Legal Form of Organization, and Other Subjects The advice of trade associations, individual businessmen, research and marketing organizations, and government agencies was invaluable in determining the feasibility of collecting various types of data and the methods for minimizing the burden of reporting, as well as in determining the types of information which would be of greatest value. Especially helpful was the Advisory Council on Federal Reports, which through special panels of business experts advised and assisted in the development of inquiries. Because of budgetary and other limitations, it was not possible to collect all of the data recommended by these groups. Timely publicity given to the Business Census by chambers of commerce, business organizations, trade papers, local newspapers, and television and radio stations aided greatly in informing businessmen of the nature and objectives of the census and facilitated the collection of census reports.
