Table of Contents Introduction The Little Milkmaid The Story of St. Dhanna The Doors of God's House The Bear - a Story from Ancient Egypt The Chosen Ones Beliefs in Horoscopes The Missing Prayer Wheel "Be Not Thee Afraid" Shabri Krishna and Sudama Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction When I wrote my book, Experiments In Faith , I began to think that I had been to so many places and read so many books, as well as scriptures and listened to so many stories of different cultures and faiths, that I could compile some of the more beautiful ones in a book of fairytales for children and adults alike. This is a book of ordinary human beings like you and I. Some of them are centuries-old. Some of them just happened the other day. But they are stories of ordinary miracles which are a part and parcel of the human fabric until we recognize them. Many of the stories are local folklore, and you are not going to see them very often in books, but they have been part of the social fabric for hundreds of years. Apart from traditional stories, I would like to tell you some real stories of faith, told by the elders, and how it has the power to change fates. Some of the stories have been taken from literature, some of them are real-life, some of them have been spoken by word-of-mouth, from generation to generation, but all of them talk about the power of faith. And how Gods can be moved and ordered by their devotees as in the case of Saint Dhanna. Along with that, you are going to read about my possible meeting with the Tibetan version of "The Wandering Jew," so if you still do not believe that angels and the great ones walk among us, you might yet change your mind. Do not read this book as a cynic. Many of us are so inclined to scoff, thinking, hey, this cannot happen, miracles do not happen, but that is because we have lost the innocence of a simple faithful heart, and we are much more apt to look at everything through dark-colored glasses. So browse through them to your hearts content, and read them at your leisure and for your pleasure. These are stories of different religions, and different faiths from different parts of the world, but all of them are ones I heard as a child, as fairytales or traditional folklore. Now let me start with my favorite story, the story of a river and a little milkmaid.

Trapped in complicated Christianity? Here's permission to come out of confinement! How did so many people wind up trapped by complicated systems of performance-based faith? Why do we push ourselves past our limits in pursuit of more works than any reasonable Pharisee would have demanded? Must we run at a pace somewhere between maddening and insane to prove we're among the faithful? "No!" is the emphatic answer from best-selling author Chuck Swindoll. In Simple Faith, he shows us how to get free from such arbitrary confinement. He reminds Christians that they serve a God who promised freedom, peace, and rest. And it's everlasting?not exhausting?life, remember? Here at last is an exhilarating invitation to simple faith. Move beyond rat-race Christianity and break the bars calculated to wilt free spirits. A cage is no place for a Christian. Welcome to your wings!

Children's spiritual development is currently a hot topic in Christian circles, as well as in other fields and disciplines such as educational psychology, medicine, developmental psychology, education, and sociology. The key question for Christian scholars and educators is "How do Christian beliefs and practices uniquely interrelate with children's spirituality?" In 2003 and again in 2006, a national conference entitled "Children's Spirituality Conference: Christian Perspectives" examined children's spirituality from a distinctly Christian standpoint. This book is a collection of the best materials from the 2006 conference. The first half of the book addresses definitional, historical, and theological concerns related to spiritual development in children. The second half explores best practices for fostering spiritual growth among our children--in our homes, families, churches, Christian schools, and among special populations of children--from a wide spectrum of Christian scholars and practitioners. The volume closes with John Westerhoff's moving keynote address and Catherine Stonehouse and Scottie May's eloquent, culminating plenary address. Nurturing Children's Spirituality provides a rich cross section of the current research and writing by Christian scholars on children's spirituality. Contributors: Holly Catterton Allen, Michael J. Anthony, Stacy Berg, Chris J. Boyatzis, MaLesa Breeding, Marilyn Brownlee, Linda V. Callahan, Jane Carr, Mara Lief Crabtree, Karen Crozier, James Riley Estep Jr., Jeffrey E. In a culture that has lost touch with love, compassion, and meaning, how can parents be intentional about building a spiritual foundation for their children’s development? In looking to their own upbringing for guidance, parents often feel even more at a loss—they don’t want to make the same mistakes their parents did, so they either become too strict, or they take a completely hands-off approach. A pastor, a teacher, and a mother, Karen Marie Yust offers a refreshing array of resources and provisions to guide and sustain parents and children on thier mutual journey. Drawn from a three-year study of children’s spirituality, as well as the best in theological tradition and literature, Real Kids, Real Faith provides insight and a variety of helpful tips for nurturing children’s spiritual and religious formation. Yust challenges the prevailing notion that children are unable to grasp religious concepts and encourages parents to recognize children as capable of authentic faith.
