Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, course: MSC supply Chain Management, language: English, abstract: Competition is a key driver of global market performance. For many decades’ businesses have been excelling based on the strategy adopted by the management. Notably, the wrong choice of strategy is likely to derail the firm from achieving its potential. This paper discusses one of the main business strategies that has been warmly embraced in the last decade. Time-based competition has been a key driver of competition in the global market since 1990. It has discussed the main basis of time competition which includes; Product Development and Introduction Time, Material Lead Time, Delivery Time and Throughput Time. Notably, all these time bases for competition affects the global market performance of an organization in different ways. Equally, the several measures needed to effect these measures fully have discussed in details. However, in determining the effectiveness of the time-based competition as a strategy, the management has to asses several measures. Such measures include profitability, growth in market share, customer’s satisfaction, increased productivity and sales. Throughout the paper, it is evident that time-based competition is a crucial driver of global market performance as opposed to quality and cost-based competition which are currently considered as enablers in the business environment. Therefore, time-based competition should be fully embraced by light-minded managers that seek to remain relevant in the competitive global market.

They are simply too slow, too detailed, and too disconnected for the information age we live in. So where do managers turn to for help when asked to develop plans, build budgets, report progress, and make decisions in response to today's increasingly competitive, fast-paced, and volatile environment? Part One makes the case for a radical change in the way managers manage performance, explaining why effective performance management is needed in today's fast-paced world and also provides a series of diagnostic tools and measures to help you evaluate the improvement opportunity. Part Two describes the principal best practices for each element of the performance management processstrategic planning, tactical and financial planning, management reporting, and forecasting. A chapter on risk management reflects its emergence as a critical component of any effective performance management process. Finally, Part Three provides insights into the steps required to design a best practiceinspired process that is right for your organisation as well as the critical success factors for implementation.

Time-based management is a recently-articulated management strategy that focuses on time, in addition to costs and sales, as a key measure of business competitiveness and performance. It calls for the acceleration of nearly every aspect of doing business - from abstract managerial functions like decision making and initiating ideas, to activities such as R&D, production, marketing, delivery and service. This report begins with a broad outline of time-based competition and an overview of the issues associated with it. It then discusses the structural and organizational changes that a company can make to simplify and streamline its operations. It also describes how time and speed can be applied to a variety of essential business operations or processes, including product development, production, distribution, sales and marketing. The report goes on to explain the uses of information technology and new ways of measuring performance for the time-based competitor.
