Marriage has come a long way since biblical times. Women are no longer property, and practices like polygamy have long been rejected. The world is wealthier, healthier, and more able to find and form relationships than ever. So why are Christian congregations doing more burying than marrying today? Explanations for the recession in marriage range from the mathematical--more women in church than men--to the economic, and from the availability of sex to progressive politics. But perhaps marriage hasn't really changed at all. Instead, there is simply less interest in marriage in an era marked by technology, gender equality, and secularization. Mark Regnerus explores how today's Christians find a mate within a faith that esteems marriage but in a world that increasingly yawns at it. This book draws on in-depth interviews with nearly two hundred young-adult Christians from the United States, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Russia, Lebanon, and Nigeria, in order to understand the state of matrimony in global Christian circles today. Regnerus finds that marriage has become less of a foundation for a couple to build upon and more of a capstone. Meeting increasingly high expectations of marriage is difficult, though, in a free market whose logic reaches deep into the home today. The result is endemic uncertainty, slowing relationship maturation, and stalling marriage. But plenty of Christians innovate, resist, and wed, and this book argues that the future of marriage will be a religious one.

If you like "Sacred Marriage" by Gary Thomas, or "The Meaning of Marriage" by Timothy keller, then you'll be impacted by this book. What's the purpose of marriage? Can you answer that question confidently and eloquently? Most importantly, do you know what the biblical answer to that question is? Most Christians enter into dating relationships and marriages naively, having no real understanding of why God created marriage in the first place. Why did God create attraction between male and female? Procreation is certainly part of the equation and so is the value of partnership, but neither of those two things satisfy the question of the true purpose of marriage. Because the purpose of intimacy has been misunderstood, its power has been misused. The joining together of man and woman in holy matrimony is an institution with much more sanctity and power that we realize. Marriage has lost its weightiness in our culture, and unfortunately, even in our churches. If marriage in Christianity is ever to become what it was designed to be, a complete understanding of its purpose must be recovered. Through "CHRIST AND THE CHURCH: THE UNTOLD TRUTH ABOUT MARRIAGE," intended for singles and couples of all ages and stages of life, David Grams invites you to join him in the discovery of the true, biblical purpose and power of marriage, promising that such a discovery will transform your heart and revolutionize your relationships. This book is comprised primarily of a series of lies about relationships that have poisoned Christian families all over the world. Countless marriages are suffering the ramifications of fallacious relational ideologies we've learned in church, in school, in counseling sessions -- ideologies we've foolishly accepted as true, while they are in no way supported by the teachings of God's Word. In this book, you'll learn how love, commitment, sex, and attraction have all been distorted by religious and cultural traditions, and how a radical reform of our beliefs about relationships needs to happen before our families will be absolutely healed. In this book, singles and engaged couples will learn to lay a necessary foundation for their future marriage, married couples will learn how to see themselves healed of any form dysfunction and strengthen their relationship through the love of God, and separated couples will learn how to mend wounds and restore love where it seems hopeless. Reviews/Testimonials :"This Christ and the Church book is huge to me. I'm only at Lie #3 and I am seeing my understanding of Father/Son [my relationship with God] take on a new level of understanding. All my questions about both Father/Son and Husband/Wife are being answered complete and full." - Ian, USA ."When you see the wisdom in this book and then remember that it was first written by a young man who wasn't married, it is undeniable that the Holy Spirit truly inspired it. No unmarried/inexperienced person could write the wisdom that's in this book, unless God truly spoke to him." - Marcy, USA.

The Puritans believed that godly marriages were foundational for the future life of families, churches, and nations. Therefore, they wrote prolifically on the subject of marriage, seeking to bring biblical reformation to this subject in a comprehensive way. Martin Luther, John Calvin, and other previous Reformers had begun this task, but the Puritans took it much further, writing a number of detailed treatises on how to live as godly spouses. Out of the wealth of material available to us from the seventeenth century, Joel R. Beeke and James A. La Belle have gathered together insights from the past and summarized them in a contemporary form in order to encourage modern day coupled to glorify God in marriage. Table of Contents: 1.The Institution and Honor of Marriage 2. The Purposes and Benefits of Marriage 3. Securing a Good Entrance into Marriage 4. Preserving the Honor of Marriage 5. Research and common sense indicate that engaged couples will eventually have stronger, more successful marriages if they get good premarital counseling. Many churches now require such counseling, yet many Christian couples still enter marriage without that preparation. Countdown for Couples will fill that void. It will help couples learn about each other, and themselves individually, as well as their relational skills and compatibility as a couple.

The church needs to do a better job of speaking theologically to single Christians. Challenging prevailing evangelical assumptions about "the problem" of singleness, this book explains why the church needs single people and offers a contemporary theology of singleness relevant to all members of the church. Drawing on the examples of three important figures from the history of Christianity, the book helps today's church form a vision of life in the kingdom of God that is as theologically significant for single people as it is for those who are married.
