The first three were preached in substance in St. Paul's Cathedral in the Lent of 1882, and the following four and the last in the same place in the Lent of 1883; but their earlier form has been altered and corrected in accordance with later treatment of the same subjects. These Sermons attempt to suggest thoughts and teachings arising out of only one aspect of the Passion. Many of the deeper truths Of that adorable mystery have been in this little volume scarcely touched; but to think reverently though slightly of any department of that mysterious and touching story may be helpful, and cannot be wrong.
