This permits a large finger to reach the postero lateral angle of the diseased bone, and gives room for the introduction of the curette, sharp spoon, or forceps, and leaves a large space for a drainage-tube. Should it be desired to carry the drainage-tube through the column, the trans verse process with the end of the rib of the op posits side can also be removed, when it can readily be passed through.
