Excerpt from Register of National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, 1913: In the State of Delaware HE National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Dela ware presents a second edition of its Register, which commemorates twenty-one years of its existence. In November, 1891, at the home of Miss Spotswood in New Castle, a meet ing was held to consider forming a Society in Delaware. Two members of the Pennsylvania Society, Mrs. Crawford Arnold and Miss Anne H. Wharton were present at this meeting; but it was not until May 12, 1892, that the Society was incorporated. Meanwhile, two other States, Maryland and New Jersey, had formed Societies, therefore Delaware was the fourth. The first National Council of Colonial Dames was held in Wilmington, May 19, 1892, at the home of Mrs. Henry G. Banning, an adjourned meeting of which was held in Washington in January, 1893. At this Council and succeed ing ones changes were made in the Eligibility lists. For example, originally the founding of _a town was an acceptable service for admission. This was omitted as a claim. Then the final date of service was April 11, 1783. This was changed to July 4, 1776. So that many claims which were accepted in the early days can not be used now, and in the Register they are marked T.
