"Growing up is easy. Growing old is what we're never taught to do." Energetic, transparent, and undaunted, Kim Lane takes us on a run for her life in The Marathon Years. This collection chronicles her passage from "the bridge between was and will be" as she unflinchingly takes on motherhood, marathoning, and her personal milestones and missteps along the way. Lane dives headlong into examining untethered family ties, while pushing her body to new (and sometimes frightening) limits. In her witty and heartbreaking style, she examines love, teaching, struggle, endurance, and acceptance. Lane's is a voice for runners and readers alike--a joyful, engaging companion at the crossroads on this knotty trail of life.

On August 23rd 2014, poets and writers from around the world got up at odd hours and stayed up for 12 or 24 hours. During that period of time they wrote a poem every hour and published it within that hour on the official website. This year a hundred people attempted the whole or half marathon and at least 50 completed one or the other. These people were in England, in India, in Sweden, in Africa, in Lebanon, in the US and Canada, and in many other countries. The participants were strangers before the day, but from it a community formed, out of staying up late, out of writing like crazy, and out of encouraging one another not to give up, even when the power went out or a storm happened. This Anthology includes one poem by everyone who completed the half or full marathon and submitted their poems for inclusion in this anthology.

Black Harvard Doctorate in Poetics launches poetry that explores modern blackness. Clint Smith's debut poetry collection, Counting Descent, is a coming of age story that seeks to complicate our conception of lineage and tradition. Smith explores the cognitive dissonance that results from belonging to a community that unapologetically celebrates black humanity while living in a world that often renders blackness a caricature of fear. His poems move fluidly across personal and political histories, all the while reflecting on the social construction of our lived experiences. Smith brings the reader on a powerful journey forcing us to reflect on all that we learn growing up, and all that we seek to unlearn moving forward. - Winner, 2017 Black Caucus of the American Library Association Literary Award - Finalist, 2017 NAACP Image Awards - 2017 'One Book One New Orleans' Book Selection
