Consequently Elder Shupe responded with a short discourse on the origin of the restored Church of Jesus Christ. After his remarks Elder Cooley was invited to explain more. He treated some of Joseph Smith's prophecies, pointing out how he predicted the American Civil war and the place of its out break 28 years before it occurred. During the meeting tea and biscuits were served. We cordi ally refused the proffered tea. That gesture opened a discussion on the Latter-day Saint Word of Wisdom. He made it years before the boy prophet had been visited by the Father and the Son and informed of the work which he would perform in bringing forth once again the true Gospel Of Jesus Christ. The grand father lived to see the day when one of his descendants did promulgate such awork, which did truly revolution ize the religious world. He died in 1830, a few months after the Book of Mormon had been published. It is interesting to note that the Prophet's forbears were natives of Britain. His paternal great-great great-grandfather, Robert Smith, emigrated to Ameri ca in 1638. He lived in bos ton, Lincolnshire and Lon don. On his maternal side, Joseph Smith descended from John Mack, who was born in Inverness, Scotland in 1653 and emigrated to America 16 years later.
