Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 90: December 13, 1928 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. - Matt. 19 6. A man cannot grow to the full measure of a man without a woman; and conversely, a woman cannot grow to the full measure of a woman without a man. They were created together and God intended them to be together in wedlock. If men and women are to enter into a fulness of joy, it must needs be that the family relationship should continue throughout eternity. That it will so continue in the Church and kingdom of God is the firm belief of the Latter-day Saints. To be born into the world in the first place, and then to be born again - born into the kingdom of God - and finally to enter into the eternity of the marriage covenant - these three conditions explain with clearness the very purpose of life. Surely, brethren and sisters, life is worth living. I testify to you most earnestly that I do know that the work in which we are engaged is the work of God, and that this is the Church of Jesus Christ; It is so denominated. It is called the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to distinguish it from His Church in the meridian of time. I know that Christ was and is the Saviour of the world, that Joseph Smith was a prophet Of God, and the instrument in the hands of God in founding this work by organizing the Church as He did in 1830. I rejoice in this knowledge. To me it is a glorious testimony, and I am determined, if possible, to hold on to it all the days of my life. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 90: August 2, 1928 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid - Isaiah 29: 13, 14. If you wish to know when and where this prophecy began to be fulfilled, follow me down the ages to the spring of the year 1820, and into the rural districts of New York State, where then dwelt a humble family by the name of Smith. One member of that family was a boy between fourteen and fifteen years of age. Anxious for his soul's salvation, young Joseph Smith went into the woods near his father's home, and inquired of the Lord which of all the churches then extant was the true Church of Christ, in order that he might join it. While praying he was seized upon by an evil power, which strove to destroy him; but he was delivered by a vision of light, in the midst of which stood two glorious Personages, one of whom, pointing to the other, said. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 90: January 12, 1928 Jesus Christ dwell and that we may have salvation, He has made the provisions Of the Gospel, including the atonement wrought out by His Son' Jesus Christ. He has also given us the organi zation Of the Church. One might ask: Why all this religious activity in the Church, and all that we see in the auxiliary organi zations? It is necessary; the salvation Of man depends upon it. These children Of Zion are to have their faith established, and they are to become so educated in the work that they in turn may be able to take responsibility, and labour for the accomplish ment Of God's purposes. Why all this effort and this expenditure Of means in the preaching Of this Gospel, as it is done by the Latter-day Saints? The answer is that the salvation Of man depends upon it. Why the building Of Temples, and the work that is accomplished therein at such tremendous effort and ex pense The salvation of man depends upon it, and the salvation Of man is the end in View that our Father in heaven has. All His works of which we have any account are but a means to that end, and it is because He loves us. The sacrifice made by the Saviour for He gave Himself willingly as such - is the result Of love for us, because we are the children Of His Father, because we are His brothers and His sisters. What a glorious truth! What a glorious principle! That we are born sons and' daughters Of God. That is why He loves us with a perfect love, because we are His sons and daughters. We ought to love Him with all our hearts, with all our minds, and with all our souls, and serve Him and keep His commandments, seeking to know His will concerning us and doing it at all hazards. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 90: April 12, 1928 Ye seek Jesus Of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here. If a miracle is a supernatural event, whose antecedent forces are beyond man's finite wisdom, then the resurrection Of Jesus Christ is the most stupendous miracle of all time. In it stand revealed the omnipotence of God and the immortality of man. The resurrection is a miracle, however, only in the sense that it is beyond man's comprehension and understanding. To all who accept it as a fact it was but a manifestation of a uniform law of life. Because man does not understand the law, he calls it a miracle. Some day man's enlightenment may bring this momen tous event out of the dusk of mystery into the broad day Of understanding. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 90: August 23, 1928 I want to say that the crying evil of the age to - day is a lack of virtue. There is but one standard of morality in the Church of Christ. Ive have been taught, thousands of us who have been reared in this Church from our childhood days, that second only to murder is the sin of losing our virtue and I want to say to the fathers and to the mothers, and to the sons and daughters, in our Primary, in our Mutual Improvement Associations, in our Religion Classes, in the Relief Society and in all of our Priesthood Quorums - I want it understood that breaking the Word of Wisdom is one of the chief things in the hands of the adversary whereby he can lead boys and girls from virtue. Nearly always those who lose their virtue, first partake of those things that excite the passions within them. Partaking of tobacco and liquor is calculated to give them an appetite for those things which, if indulged in, are worse than death itself. There is no true Latter-day Saint who would not rather bury a son or a daughter than to have them lose their virtue - realizing that virtue is of more value than anything else in all the wide world. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 90: May 31, 1928 The British Mission had been opened nearly three years previous to this time by Heber C. Kimball and his associates. The Church in Great Britain was more than holding its own, but the work needed organizing - needed impetus; and through Brigham Young it received What it needed. From then on events occurred rapidly. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 90: November 22, 1928 If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 90: January 19, 1928 I wish to take this opportunity to thank both the Lord and my brothers and Sisters for their kindness, for I know that it is through the kindness Of the Lord and the faith Of members Of the Church that I have thus far been so greatly blessed. I am very grateful that the Lord has extended His mercy to me and given me a testimony Of His work. I am very grateful for the privilege of doing what little I can in His service, because I feel that I am one Of the weakest Of the weak, and that it is an important privilege to labour in His service. I am also very grateful for the privilege Of standing here, in the Sight Of those who are members of the Church, to acknowledge the hand Of the Lord in blessing the people, for I have seen His blessings mani fest as I administer in the stakes Of Zion and to individuals. I know that the Lord has blessed this Church and the people, and that not only has He magnified those who are called into service and leadership, but He has blessed the people in their homes, in their flocks and in their herds. He has blessed us far beyond our gratitude and acknowledgement Of His kindness. He has extended His mercy to the Sick and afflicted, to those who are tried and those who have been deprived Of many Of their privileges.
