Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 77: June 10, 1915 And now a few illustrations of the manner of speech of the greatest of all prophets, sayings from the mouth of Him who spake as never man spake; He who is the Word of God, and who is God, even the Son of God, who was made flesh, who lived and died and rose again, and ascended up on high and sat down upon the throne, at the right hand of God, His Father, in that king dom and glory which was His from the foundation of the world; Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth, whose prophets all others are, whose word all other pro phebs spake; by whom all things were made and with out whom was not any thing made that was made. In whom was life, and the life was the light of men. At the beginning of His earthly ministry, He opened his mouth, and taught them, saying. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 77: November 4, 1915 I must do the best I can, the best I know how, for those whom God has entrusted to my care. I must do, to the best of my know ledge and of my understanding, my duty toward the people of God over whom He has willed that I should be a humble minister and teacher of the gospel, and with whom He has honored me with the presidency over the Church. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 77: November 18, 1915 The Jews, still in unbelief that Jesus was the Christ, will separate themselves from among the Gentiles and gather to their fatherland. Events will be so controlled by the God of Israel, that they shall possess the land again and build the Temple in its former place; they will increase and multiply in numbers and in riches, and practice the rites of the Mosaic law, looking for the coming of the Messiah to reign over them as king, The bankrupt nations, envying the wealth of the sons of Judah, will seek a pre text to make war upon them, and will invade the 'holy land' to take a prey and a spoil.' Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: November 5, 1914 Nor is this re-action from the evolutionary theory strange. Darwin, who has been regarded as its chief apostle, is found, upon close examination of his writings, to be less infallible than the nu critical reader is apt to imagine. Gaston Bonnier, a prominent professor of the Sorbonne, a few years ago called attention to some peculiar Darwinisms. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 77: July 8, 1915 With all these talents to its credit, charity can, I think, be classed above all things which we should seek for, with the possible exception of love. But love and charity are so inseparably united that they are almost one and the same thing. It is an impossibility to have charity without love, or love without charity. Where one is the other is always to be found, and if we have charity from which the love has evaporated, it is not charity; but mock charity. Above all things, says Peter, have fervent charity among yourselves, and Paul's testimony - above all things put on charity - is just as strong. The reason for these statements is, that if you put on charity, ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of your Lord Jesus Christ; you will not need to worry about sins, for charity shall cover the multitude of sins, and your doubts will vanish because charity is the bond of perfectness, and the end of commandment out of a pure heart. Charity, then, is the one thing which we must all possess. We must coax it, cajole it, pamper it; anything to get it. And when we do get it, make it the central rallying point for thought; speak it and act it, that you may become sound in it; let flee all youth ful lusts and follow charity, and then you may call on the Lord out of a pure heart, and join with Paul in saying, We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 77: April 29, 1915 Another great and important duty devolving upon this people is to teach their children from their very cradle until the day they become men and women every principle of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and endeavor as far as it lies in the power of the parents to instil into the hearts of their children a love for God and a love for the truth, a love for virtue, a love for honesty and for honor and integrity to everything that is good and right. That is an important thing for every man and woman who stands at the head of a family in the household of faith. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 77: November 25, 1915 The Godhead, then, consists of three personages, God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; God the Father and the Son possess ing material bodies, and the Holy Ghost, a body of spirit. Following the writer further, we find that he speaks of Genesis 1: 26, where God says, Let us make man in our own image, and he adds, of course, this likeness must be in some sphere of being which God possesses; it would be entirely irrational to seek it in such things as the color of our hair, for instance, or in bodily resemblance of any kind, for God is spirit, as Christ Himself told us, and hence the likeness must be in our spiritual nature. The Mormons, however, take it that God meant just what He said. He made man in His own likeness and gave us a body and a spirit, such as He Himself possesses, as is amply proved by the Bible. As to the teaching of a plurality of Gods, of which the writer accuses us, we answer that we teach nothing but what the Scriptures teach, so that the charge is directed against the Bible not against us. We also believe that as man is, God once was, and as God is, so man may become. Blasphemy! May be; but if so, then are sectarian ministers blasphemers also. In any sectarian church this is the doctrine you will hear - Christ was once a help less babe born into the world, just the same as other children are born. He grew up, passed from childhood to manhood. He died, and rose again, and is now sitting at the right hand of God, sharing His glory. In other words, He is now as God, but once He was a man. He said Himself, I am the way, and bade us follow where He led. If we do that, then one day we shall be as Christ is now, as God. But, as God is progressing, too, He will always be as much ahead of us as He is now. He will still be God of gods. Thou shalt have no other gods before me, God declared offold. What did He mean? Just what He said; that He was the God who stood at the head, and we were to place none before Him; but He never said none were to come after Him, and, as Exodus 15: 11; Deut. 10: 7; Joshua 22: 22; Psalm 86: 8, etc., speak of God as God of gods, what are we to understand, if not that God sits enthroned amidst others who have risen to the high position of gods, and that every man who will but conform to the will of God may one day become as He is now. What an incentive is here for man to strive to conquer sin to keep himself pure and unspotted from the world! Could frail, erring man only realize the latent powers within him that he has lying dormant within, surely he would arise and use those slumbering powers! Be ye therefore perfect, said Christ, and to be perfect is surely to be as God; then where is the blasphemy in teaching neither more nor less than Christ taught?
