The percentage of illiterates, i.e., people over ten years of age who cannot read or write, in the State for the same year was per cent, and only per cent among native whites. Utah stands third among forty-eight states in the matter of illiteracy. The average for the United States for the same year was per cent. Utah spends more per capita on education than any other state, country or nation on the globe. In 1913, eighty per cent of the total revenues of the State were appropriated for educational pur poses. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: June 4, 1914 So that, it appears distinctly that it is the young women who are most inclined to follow the outsider, and to become associated in marriage with non-believers, which is a pity. The number of members of the Church divorced during the year is 163; of this number 59 had been married in the temples, and 104 by civil ceremony. I think that here is a point Worthy of observation by the Latter day Saints. Men and women who become united in the holy bonds of wedlock, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enter into that solemn relation ship with better understanding of the duties and responsibilities of marriage than others do, because they are taught more fully the facts in the case. There were excommunicated from the Church, in the stakes of Zion, 55 persons. Mostly, I suppose, for being carried away by every wind of doctrine. We have some foolish people who take up with any chimera, or foolish notion that anybody may advance to them. They are to be pitied. Is it not better by far to be live fish going against the stream - if we may find peace, happiness and love at the end - than to go with the stream, and fail to realize the purpose of our creation? Shall we be of the world, and regret forever that we have not attained to what we might have been through our failure to improve the opportunities that have been offered to us? Our eyes are open, free agency is given to all, and two roads lie before us from which to choose. I need not say where the respective roads lead, for this we all know, and if we would but make a care ful study of the matter, we will know which is the better way. But I am wandering from my subject, the fatherhood of God, and I will now return to it. For some time past I have been searching for scriptural texts that are pertinent to my leading thought, and by the time we have read a few of them we will see that never for a moment was the fatherhood of God absent from the mind of Christ. I have been a member of the Mormon Church for fourteen years, and ever since I joined it I have had a desire to go to Utah. However, it has not been my lot to make my home there so far, but I am thankful to say that the way was opened for me last summer to go on a visit to that place for six months. My youngest daughter and I sailed on the Corsican, May 3lst, 1913, and We returned on the Victorian, November 26th, 1913, and I can say that I never enjoyed anything so much in my life as I did that visit to Utah. 've stayed with my married daughter, who has lived in Salt Lake City for over five years. I found her very happy, and she just loves her mountain home. Her husband, who is a native of Penrith, England, has a good situation, and is making good wages. They told me that they never have wished to return to England to live; but they intend to make a visit to this land in the near future.
