Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 64: November 6, 1902 President Pond welcomed the Saints and their friends and reported the condition of the conference. We are getting a better hearing of late among the people. The Saints are alive to their duties, the tithing roll has increased, the meetings are better attended and the list of subscribers to the star is larger than ever before. He then read the statistical and labor report and pre sented the general and local authorities of the Church. Elders White, Snyder and Stewart each bore strong testimonies and spoke upon the apostasy and restoration. President Lyman was desirous for all men to become familiar with our doc trines. If a man has faith he will obey just as sure as a man will breathe who has life. The legitimate fruits of faith are repentance and obedience. We want members who are thoroughly converted. If you do not want to love your enemies and live godly in Christ J esas we do not want you. After the opening exercises in the afternoon Elders Montgomery, Campbell and Ririe spoke upon the necessity of intelligent worship, and explained the doctrine of baptism very clearly. President Lyman said no people in the world believe in religious liberty more than do the Latter-day Saints, and all reports of blood atonement, other than the atonement of Christ, are contrary to the spirit and genius of the Gospel, and therefore not countenanced by our people. After the usual exercises in the evening, Elder Astle called attention to the similarity of treatment accorded the advent of Prophets and Apostles in ancient and modern times. President Pond spoke upon salvation for the dead. Life lasts after death. The unrepentant dead are not forgotten, nor are they irredeemably lost. We need no longer be in doubt regarding our dead kindred. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: October 28, 1909 There are things, in connection with this subject, that would not perhaps, be proper to speak of here, before a large and mixed con gregation: but I want to sound a warning to the Latter-day Saints. The time has come for them to look after their children. Every device possible to the understanding and ingenuity of cun ning men, is being used for the purpose of diverting our children from the faith of the gospel and from the love of the truth. Every species of organization is being formed, both in our midst and abroad, having for its object the express purpose of leading astray the children of the Latter-day Saints, because they can't reach their parents. This is their argument: We cannot convert the adult Mormon people, but we may, perhaps, convert their children; we may lead away their children; we do not hope to lead away the old people. They can't do it, except it may be, now and then, a man or woman who never did know anything parti cularly about the gospel. These, only, are they who can be led away from the truth; and our children can be led away from their parents and from the faith of the gospel, only when they are in a condition that they know not the truth for themselves, not having been taught it, not having had a proper example before them to impress it upon their minds. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: January 28, 1909 Christians. He had sought for that faith in a number of the leading churches; but had sought in vain. And not only that, but the love which reigned in the hearts of the primitive saints, which found expression in their daily lives, and by which Christ said all men would know that they were His disciples, was also lacking. Like the woman in the Savior's parable who had lost a piece of money and who after diligent search had found it, so he, after searching for years for the primitive Christian faith and the primi tive Christian love, had at last found them in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His first testimony concerning the truth of the gospel taught by the Latter-day Saints was the testi mony of love which he saw the members of the Church bestow up on each other. So you see, brethren and sisters, we can all be missionaries. We cannot all leave our work and go out and distribute tracts; we cannot all stand up and preach, but this we all can do, we can love one another, and this will be a testimony to the world of the truth of Mormonism against which there can be no argument. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 70: November 19, 1908 Church has grown from six members to about four hundred thousand. It has arrested the attention of the wise and learned in both hemispheres, and they have exhausted their wisdom and learning in trying to overthrow it; but all their efforts have been in vain, the words of the prophet have been fulfilled to the letter the wisdom of their wise men has perished and the understanding of their prudent men has been hid. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 70: November 5, 1908 Another lesson we can learn from this item of history is: that just as the Nephite vessel did not make progress while her captain was bound, neither can we make progress in the Church of Christ if we tie ourselves up by cords of our own weaving. These are some of the bands by which, if we bind ourselves, we shall stay our progress and go back in the way of life and salvation. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 70: November 26, 1908 His laws and who seek to work righteousness and carry out the purposes of the Lord. It is for the Latter-day Saints to judge the standing Of these men. They have no occasion to sound their own praise, to bear testimony Of their own works; their lives are Open books to all the Latter-day Saints and to all the world. You know these men; you understand them; you have seen their labors; you understand the desires of their hearts, for you are familiar with them. The Lord has sustained these brethren in the positions to which He has called them, and He will continue to sustain them in these positions so long as they continue to be faithful before Him. If one of them should cease to be faithful and turn away from the right path, the consequences Of his own evil acts will fall upon him sooner or later, and the fruits Of his works and the desires of his heart will be made manifest. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 70: October 8, 1908 Mormonism for myself, for I have proven it to be in very truth the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, the power of God unto salvation. I have been able, through the assistance of the Lord, to induce Others to follow my example, and they, too, have found rest for their souls. This has given me joy such as I had never experienced before. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 70: November 12, 1908 It has been demonstrated times without number that men are capable of overcoming the fear of death. When their honor has been assailed, they have defied the monster; for the love of truth, of home and country they have despised it; others, in order to get revenge, have disregarded it; and tens of thousands bowed down with grief have prayed earnestly for it. It is strange that Christians should fear that which the passions of weak men have conquered. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
