Ranging from Gregorian chant to Handel's Messiah, from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons to the postmodern work of Philip Glass, Swafford is an affable and expert guide to the genre. “The Secret Language of Spirit is the result of many years of dynamic mediumship. It soars with hope and conviction.” —Whitley Strieber, #1 New York Times–bestselling author The Secret Language of Spirit is the culmination of award-winning author and psychic medium William Stillman’s wisdom and insights in a fascinating exploration of the sometimes blatant, sometimes hidden spiritual symbolism in our everyday lives. With accessible language, easy-to-understand explanations, and fascinating anecdotes, Stillman introduces to the open-minded layperson an alternate lens through which to view daily interactions with Spirit. Topics unique to this compelling new work include: A thorough explanation of Heaven’s inner workings Recognizing Spirit-speak—the silent but ever-present signs and signals that surround us Decoding symbolic patterns found in nature, dreams, our names, and the manifestation of “threes” Associative links in memory that correlate spiritually to music and scents Stillman’s most powerful observations may be found in the chapter that correlates spiritual sensitivity with persons with autism, mental illness, and dementia—individuals whose “gibberish” is often dismissed as pathology but may actually provide glimpses into another realm. The Secret Language of Spirit concludes with an empowering chapter that addresses the concepts of abundance and achieving authenticity with Love’s Foot Rule—12 fundamental tenets. Stillman also introduces the principles of passion, pursuit, and prosperity, and how to manifest them in concert with Spirit. “Particularly illuminating are the connections he makes in the communications of people with dementia, mental illness and autism. This pioneering book offers insights that will both inform and inspire readers.” —Raymond Moody, author of Life After Life

Contemporary thought has been profoundly shaped by the early-twentieth-century turn toward synchronic models of explanation, which analyze phenomena as they appear at a single moment, rather than diachronically as they develop through time. But the relationship between time and system remains unexplained by the standard account of this shift. Through a new history of systematic thinking across the humanities and sciences, The Writing of Spirit argues that nineteenth-century historicism wasn’t simply replaced by a more modern synchronic perspective. The structuralist revolution consisted rather in a turn toward time’s absolutely minimal conditions, and thus also toward a new theory of diachrony. Pourciau arrives at this surprising and powerful conclusion through an analysis of language-scientific theories over the course of two centuries, associated with thinkers from Jacob Grimm and Richard Wagner to the Russian Futurists, in domains as disparate as historical linguistics, phonology, acoustics, opera theory, philosophy, poetics, and psychology. The result is a novel contribution to a pressing contemporary question—namely, what role history should play in the interpretation of the present.

The latest work by noted New Testament scholar Robert P. Menzies, The Language of the Spirit: Interpreting and Translating Charismatic Terms, treats in successive chapters six key issues that impact the translation of New Testament terms related to the Holy Spirit or charismatic themes. Special attention is given to how specific terms should be translated in the English and Chinese New Testaments. These translation issues serve as a catalyst for further analysis of and reflection upon a variety of texts. Significant light is shed on a number of important topics: the nature of prophecy and spiritual guidance in the early church, the role of the Paraclete in John's gospel, Luke's understanding of the Kingdom of God and salvation history. Menzies demonstrates that reading the biblical text through the lens of a different language and culture can be an enriching and illuminating experience. These essays reflect the careful study and keen theological insight for which Dr Menzies is known. The chapters are 1. Prophecy or Preaching?; 2. The Spirit of God or the Spirit of Man?; 3. How Shall We Translate parakletos?; 4. Is the Kingdom of God within You?; 5. Did Jesus Send Seventy or Seventy-two?; and 6. Tongues or Languages?
