The only daughter, she was educated largely under private tuition and by her parents. Books and periodicals abounded in the family home and her bent was always towards literature and the world of thought. She served as literary editor of the Boston Evening Traveller from 1880-90, was editor-in-chief of the Boston Budget for the following three years and afterwards spent much of her time travelling in Europe. This work was first published in 1906 and is reprinted from an edition of 1909. Illustrated with photographs throughout.
