They contain the substance of observations founded on experience gained in more than twenty years spent in humble, but earnest endeavours to promote the spread of Christianity among the Jews. The Author regrets that the publication of the volume, of which by far the greater part had left the press in March last, has been deferred through various unforeseen and unavoidable causes of delay. He is much indebted to his friend, Mr. J. C. Holm, for his assistance in preparing the Survey of the Foreign Missionary Stations, and for his aid in arranging the materials of which the volume consists.
