You may have sat through countless sermons, numerous Sunday School classes, and Bible Studies. You know Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:14), so you may ask, why look for Jesus in the first five books of the Old Testament?To answer the question of why look for Jesus in the Pentateuch, let us look at something Jesus said to a couple of His disciples, after He arose from the grave. We find this passage in Luke 24:27, "Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself." And we find these words of Jesus, "For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me." (John 4:46)Notice that Jesus explained himself "from all the Scripture." As believers in Christ Jesus we may spend a substantial amount of time studying New Testament theology. In our study of God, for that is what the word "theology" means, we dig deeply into the New Testament, the covenant which was made by the blood of Jesus, as documented in Mark 14:24, "And he [Jesus] said to them, 'This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many...'"Mistakenly, in our study of theology, we often study the LORD of the Old Testament without much regard for the truth that Christ Jesus, the Son of God (John 20:30-31), the one who Created all things (Colossians 1:15-18); this Jesus, as the Word of God (John 1:1), is visible and easily found throughout the Old Testament (Romans 1:20).This booklet is intended to briefly, but unequivocally, show Jesus in two or three places in each of the books that make up the Pentateuch; the first five books of the Bible. This booklet is not intended to be comprehensive but, rather, it is intended to provide some guidance for further study of Jesus in the Old Testament.
