Excerpt from The History, Art and Palaeography of the Manuscript Styled, the Utrecht Psalter In putting before the rapidly increasing number of students of the rudiments of palæography this work upon the history and art of the celebrated Manuscript known as The Utrecht Psalter, the author has throughout endeavoured to be plain and concise, as one writing to instruct in a general way the reader who is not learned in the deeper intricacies of the questions implicated, rather than to be hypercritical and captious about the too often conflicting opinions of others far better able to judge than himself upon minute evidence. He is not unaware that he has laid himself open to the criticism of the one school that claims an early date for the Manuscript, or the other that assigns a late date to the Manuscript, or perhaps of both, according as his views agree or disagree with theirs. This is naturally to be expected. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
