I spent years making desserts for people who didnt want the same old thing. Sometimes, it was because someone had favorite flavors they wanted incorporated in their special cake; often, it was just a matter of what was in the cabinets. I hope you find many, if not all, of the recipes to your liking.

In 2003, when the author cobbled together her first dessert recipe book Just Desserts, she had two folders—regular ratty pocket folders, like ones you would buy at the school-supplies store, filled with loose pages of handwritten recipes and notes. She also had separate pages that listed the recipes found in the folders. Before sitting down at the computer to enter “Just Desserts” into a word processing file, one of the folders disappeared, along with the list of what was contained in that folder. Unfazed, she created her little book from the folder at hand, printed the pages, and took the whole mess to a local printing business where they did their version of binding. In 2018, she ventured to create a better version of a dessert recipe book using recipes from Just Desserts, as well as some previously not used from the folder that had not vanished into the blue. A few days after, she had The Great Schmoogle Dessert Book in her hands. She found the missing list and was able to recreate at least most of the items. There was never a doubt that she would do another recipe book, and after toying with a few different titles, she decided the most natural was her reaction when she located the elusive list: Eureka! I Found Them.

Do you know the fascinating history behind your favorite aperitif? Have you ever considered the complex skills involved in creating a cocktail_the centuries of research, experimentation and imagination that come together to produce that unique and exquisite blend of flavors in your cocktail glass? This book explores these questions, and many others, by celebrating Pernod Ricard_s faithful restoration of Gustav Eiffel_s iconic distillery built in Thuir in 1873, the origin of many of France_s most distinguished aperitifs, including Pernod Absinthe, Byrrh, Lillet, Ricard and Suze. The first part of this book provides an intimate photographic tour of the distillery, revealing rarely seen images of the antique oak casks_among them the largest in the world, with a capacity of a million liters_copper pots and bubbling laboratory equipment, against the backdrop of Eiffel_s 19th-century stained glass windows and intricate ironwork. The Thuir distillery also boasts a recently refurbished bar, styled in the manner of the quintessential English club. Part two of the book links the past with the present through a series of portraits and interviews with 25 of the world_s most accomplished and renowned bartenders and mixologists, who reveal the secrets (together with a few shared recipes) behind some of the most delicious drinks invented since the creation of absinthe.
