The Finnish Lapphund is a medium-sized breed of dog that is a member of the Spitz typing. The breed is also commonly known as the 'Lapinkoira Suomenlapinkoira' in its native country of Finland. Despite being an incredibly popular breed within Finland and other Nordic countries, the Finnish Lapphund is relatively rare in the other countries of the world. The Finnish Lapphund lineage is that of a female wolf-male dog hybridization that occurred post-domestication around 3000 years ago. The breed was originally developed to be a reindeer herder for the Sami people. The Sami are an indigenous people who reside in areas that are now classified as Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia.
