The Dottery is a tale of dotters before they are born. In this series of prose poems you meet their would-be-mutters, the buoys they will know, their inner warden, and the mutterers who cannot have them. The Dottery itself is a sort-of pre-purgatory, a finishing school for the fetal feminine. The five sections correspond to the conceptual set-ups interrogated within. In “wound,” The Dottery is described, as are its inhabitants and their difficulties. In “Dual,” a gender binary is introduced and (hopefully) eviscerated. “Triage” establishes the issues that plague both the dotters and those who would bring them out into the world—specifically into the idea of America (I’m Erica and I can prefer a hummer to the rose parade”). In “Fear,” failed dotters (out in the world) are described in obit fashion. Finally, in “Thief” one mutterer recounts how she stole her dotter (“a snatched piece”) to become a mutter and chronicles both her desires and regrets.

The complete story of how the German Enigma codes were broken. Perfect for fans of THE IMITATION GAME, the new film on Alan Turing's Enigma code, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Breaking the German Enigma codes was not only about brilliant mathematicians and professors at Bletchley Park. There is another aspect of the story which it is only now possible to tell. It takes in the exploits of spies, naval officers and ordinary British seamen who risked, and in some cases lost, their lives snatching the vital Enigma codebooks from under the noses of Nazi officials and from sinking German ships and submarines. This book tells the whole Enigma story: its original invention and use by German forces and how it was the Poles who first cracked - and passed on to the British - the key to the German airforce Enigma. The more complicated German Navy Enigma appeared to them to be unbreakable.

'Heavy footsteps stomped up the wooden step and onto the back porch. The screen door banged behind him. Bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement. In a booming voice, he asked, 'Does anyone here want to move to Kansas?'' Ephraim Von Horne felt the longing to search for new lands, much as his own grandfather had done some years previous when he left Europe with his family to find a new home in America. On a trip to Kansas in 1869, Ephraim found the perfect spot northwest of the small village of Wichita. Proudly, he planted his sign: 'Homestead.' After returning home full of hope, he, his wife, and his family put their departure plans in motion. Inspired by the journey of an actual family, The Homestead Trail takes the reader on an exciting and enlightening trip across the United States. Learn of the Golden Spike era of the railroads; an adventuresome riverboat trip up the Missouri River; the excitement of the Pony Express; the heart-stopping nearness of the Longhorn cattle drives; the glamour of the 'wind wagons, ' and the stark reality of the Santa Fe Trail.
