Why does a Cuckoo Clock stop Working?
Most likely, it is because the works are dirty, need oiling, or most likely both. When the clock stops, think of it as “the oil light is on”. It’s a “cry for help”. Without oil, the metal parts grind on each other, causing serious wear and damage.

Oil also attracts dust which can make the oil “gummy’ and add drag to its operation until it can no longer overcome the friction.

If a clock is oiled regularly [every three to five years], chances are you will only ever need to reoil your clock.

If the clock is allowed to run until it stops, the only sure way to service it is to remove the works from its case, dismantle the parts, clean, service, and put the movement back together with fresh oil and correct adjustment.

This book will teach you how to do all this.

Covered: Regula, Baduf, Hubert Herr, Schatz, Rack & Snail, Count Wheel, Bellows and Weights, Movement ID, Cleaning and Oiling, Complete Step by Step Repair Procedure.

Examining one of the earliest films made specifically for young audiences in US cinema, Rock around the Clock (1956), this book explores the exploitation production company that made the film and the ways it represented young people, especially in terms of their association with rock ’n’ roll music and culture. Providing new avenues of approaching the film, the book looks at how Rock around the Clock has attracted significant scholarly attention, despite its origins as a low-budget production made by master exploitation filmmaker Sam Katzman. It challenges accounts that see the film’s young people as juvenile delinquents, using instead the label ‘cultural rebels’ as a signifier of youth’s ability to resurrect a moribund music industry and rejuvenate a stale youth culture. This book also questions the nature of the label ‘exploitation’ as applied to the film by examining Columbia Pictures’ role as a resource provider for Katzman’s film, comparing Rock around the Clock to contemporaneous films with a youth focus that were produced in different industrial contexts and investigating its relationship to adaptation by asking whether the film is an example of a ‘postliterary’ adaptation. Rich on archival research and industrial and textual analysis, Rock around the Clock will interest both film studies and youth cultures scholars.

The rock and roll music that dominated airwaves across the country during the 1950s and early 1960s is often described as a triumph for integration. Black and white musicians alike, including Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, and Jerry Lee Lewis, scored hit records with young audiences from different racial groups, blending sonic traditions from R&B, country, and pop. This so-called "desegregation of the charts" seemed particularly resonant since major civil rights groups were waging major battles for desegregation in public places at the same time. And yet the centering of integration, as well as the supposition that democratic rights largely based in consumerism should be available to everyone regardless of race, has resulted in very distinct responses to both music and movement among Black and white listeners who grew up during this period. Rock and Roll, Desegregation Movements, and Racism in the Post-Civil Rights Era: An "Integrated Effort" traces these distinctions using archival research, musical performances, and original oral histories to determine the uncertain legacies of the civil rights movement and early rock and roll music in a supposedly post-civil rights era.
