Statistics have been compiled relating to practically all lines of labor employed in the state, and by comparison with reports of former years it is quite apparent that wage-earners are as uniformly employed and well paid as at any previous time since Washing ton was admitted to statehood. On the other hand, it will be observed from the chapter dealing with the cost of living that prices of food commodities exhibit a steady upward tendency, this being. Particularly true of a large list of staple articles which enter into common household use in all families. From all the facts assembled as the results of investigations by this bureau, and from reports of labor organizations, it is quite evi dent that wages have failed to keep pace with advanced living ex penses. Some method of adjusting this unsatisfactory situa tion is a crying necessity. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
