Excerpt from Surveys, Historic and Economic, 1900 The five and forty essays and reviews which make up this volume fall into a few well-marked groups. Two of the longest are devoted to the economic relations between England and her American colonies during the century from 1660 to 1760 : they aim at removing some misapprehensions which are even more persistent in England than in the United States; and the second of them explains - for the first time, so far as I am aware - he true nature of the import trade of America. Their theme associates them with the preceding group of papers on the history of Economic Opinion, and especially with the essay on Tory Free Trade in the age of Sir Dudley North and Bolingbroke which deals with a forgotten chapter in the history of English political parties. The groups labelled 'Mediaeval Agrarian' and 'Mediaeval Urban' may seem at first sight of a somewhat specialist and archaeological character. Many of those papers are relevant for current economic studies and all of them reveal how classical and neoclassical economics had an impact on subsequent doctrinal or practical developments.

Excerpt from Abstract of the Twelfth Census of the United States, 1900 The Abstract is an epitome or digest of the contents of the ten volumes of the Twelfth Census, and is designed for the use of the general public who may not have access to the main volumes or may find this digest more convenient for ready refer ence. For this purpose the volume should be small; the information should be presented in tables because an item of information is found far more easily in a table than in text; and the tables should be arranged in a simple, orderly way so that any table wanted may be found without delay. It has been the endeavor to make the present volume fulfill these requirements. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
