Field work among the Chipewyan Indians at Snowdrift, Northwest Territories arose out of a general interest on the part of the writer and some of his colleagues in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto in the problems of culture change in the area of the Mackenzie River Valley and Great Slave Lake.
