James Morgan Sherman was born 1842 at Windsor, Connecticut, a son of James Taylor Sherman and Abigail Talcott Morgan. James Taylor Morgan was an early settler in Brodhead, Wisconsin, removing from Connecti- cut in 1856. He was a deacon in the congregational church at Brod- head for fifty years. James Morgan Sherman married Mary Eliza French (b. 1849) 1871 at Malden, Illinois. She was a daughter of Sanford Byron French and Mary Ann Mead. They had four children: Edwin Morgan (b. 1874); Roger (b. 1877); Martha Elizabeth (b. 1878); and Mary French (b. 1880). All four were born in Chicago, Illinois. The early English ancestor was Capt. John Sherman (1612-1691?) from Dedham. He emigrated about 1636, and settled in Watertown, Massa- chusetts. Descendants live in Illinois and elsewhere.
