This is a practical self-defense guide targeted towards the untrained individual who desires to embody a warrior mentality, and learn how to survive vicious life and death situations with the principles and strategies of close quarters fighting. It was written by former Marine Corps infantry machine gunner and martial arts instructor Kyle Swinehart. The sole purpose of his self-defense guide is to increase your chances of surviving a violent assault to the maximum potential. This is not a style of martial arts; these fighting tactics are extremely violent in nature because they were born on the battlefield, and designed for combating the most savage and deadly encounters in real world scenarios. It combines human biological instincts with self-control to form a completely fluid fighting strategy that is perpetually changing based on your threat and the environment around you. In this warrior's manual, you will learn how your body responds in an emergency, and what you can do to prepare yourself for violent combat. Kyle will describe the advantages of embracing the chaos, and how to respond to being assaulted. You will learn about the systems that allow your body to function, and the most effective way to target these systems on your enemy and successfully shut them off during a physical confrontation. Kyle will use simple physics to demonstrate the importance of speed in motion, and how to produce these effects with your body in the most efficient way. You will learn about his Spartan Defense, a close quarters maneuver that will maximize your offensive and defensive capabilities. He will also cover the various ranges of fighting in combat, and the safest way to traverse between them. You will also read about several of the most quick and effective methods of quickly taking your opponent down in close quarters, and the best strategies for fighting multiple opponents. This self-defense guide also contains numerous escape and evasion tactics Kyle learned in the Marine Corps infantry. You will learn how to be a hard target, what to do when someone is following you, and how to survive being kidnapped. It also includes various methods of escaping the most common enemy restraints. Kyle also teaches what your objectives are when you are assaulted with a deadly weapon, and how you must respond to being seriously injured by your attacker. This incredibly informative self-defense guide is packed full of tactics and knowledge that can potentially save your life, and should be available to everyone. The book examines in detail one of the most controversial topic in current international law, namely the scope and extent of the right of individual self-defense. The book carefully traces the paths which have been followed in the developing legal debate on self-defense. The author uses numerous case-studies of incidents involving the use of force in alleged self-defense (such as the Entebbe Incident 1976, the Nicaragua Case 1986 or the Israeli-Lebanese conflict of 2006) which have formed the central point of scholarly debate. The author's conclusions are based not only on thorough analysis of academic discussions but also of the practice of States and international bodies, especially of the United Nations Organization. At the outset of the book the author reviews the historical context and the customary evolution of the right of self-defense. Reference is made to the famous Caroline Case of 1837, which set the necessary conditions of lawful exercise of self-defense. Next, the author examines the concept and legal nature of self-defense, carefully assessing the customary conditions of necessity, proportionality and immediacy derived from the Caroline Case. As the occurrence of an "armed attack" is a conditio sine qua non of lawful invocation of self-defense, several modalities of an armed attack are attentively evaluated such as its constituent elements, beginning or scale. The author explores, whether reactions to acts of international terrorism committed by a non-State may be based on the right of self-defense. In times of global terrorist networks it is highly desirable to attach special attention to use of force in self-defense as a remedy against serious acts of terrorism. Thorough analysis of State practice is shown on several examples from recent history - the U.S. air raid on Libya in 1986 and on Baghdad in 1993 and relatively recent air strikes on Sudan and Afghanistan in 1998. Reference is also made to the most striking example - the Al-Qaeda attack on the United States in 2001. The validity of claims of anticipatory/preventive self-defense is examined on a theoretical level and then applied to the specific details of the Israeli air strike on the Osiraq Nuclear Reactor in 1981. The two main approaches to preventive self-defense - "restrictive" and "traditional" - are then discussed in detail. Brief analysis is also devoted to the nature of the so-called - pre-emptive - self-defense indicating its current position under international law.

Hall of Fame wrestler Ed "Strangler" Lewis and his legendary manager and promoter, Billy Sandow, were founding fathers of professional wrestling. The two men helped transform wrestling from local matches to traveling circus tours, with celebrity wrestlers, full cards and packed arenas filled with screaming fans. Feared inside the ring for his crippling submission holds, Lewis was respected outside the ring for his extensive knowledge of wrestling. In 1926 he and Sandow compiled their vast knowledge of physical conditioning, fighting and wrestling into an eight-volume collection, called the Sandow-Lewis Library. These books became instant classics and were instrumental in teaching the science of wrestling and physical fitness to generations of wrestling aficionados. Long out of print, copies of these individual volumes are hard to find and command such steep prices when they do surface that it is virtually impossible for wrestling or fighting enthusiasts today to own the entire collection. Now they can through this exclusive reprint collection from Paladin Press. Self Defense contains Volume V of the original series.
