Tel Aviv and Seattle. A woman who does the unthinkable. Two best friends living far apart, and how that separation shapes their lives. Is the grass really greener on the other side of the fence? Which comes first, family or country? And how far should we go to secure our happiness? In "Hope to See You Soon," Author Revital Horowitz challenges her readers to confront these questions, and to grapple with the meaning of friendship, family, and country- the meaning of life itself. The novel, which will resonate with all its readers but particularly with anyone who has ever lived abroad, is full of moral challenges and cross-examinations. The past mingles with the present as the friends exchange letters over the years. The characters are compelling and sympathetic. You won't want to put this book down until you've reached the end.

A departing tortoise has his bags packed and is almost ready to set out on an adventure, but he can’t leave until he says good-bye to each of his animal friends. The tortoise stops for every last timid mouse and bumblebee, shouting his rhyming good-byes, making you wonder if, perhaps, he’s stalling the start of his trip. His animal friends appear startled as he suddenly pops up on each page to say adieu—especially the perplexed rhinoceros the tortoise mistakes for a unicorn! With each farewell, the tortoise’s good-byes get sillier and more creative. When will the good-byes end and the adventure begin? See You Later, Alligator is a silly story with bright, engaging illustrations and expressive, rhyming text that children will want to read—and giggle through—again and again. The poems in See You Soon endeavor to test the limits of metaphor and language as their voices speak from the beauty and strangeness of daily experience, testing how we make sense of ourselves to ourselves and to one another. There is love in these poems, and there is failure and absurdity. The characters, in their various situations and guises, find themselves outside of time, space, and identity--at sunset, in an airport, outside a hookah lounge, as a birthday party clown, after a flood. Influenced by H.D., Donald Barthelme, Iris Murdoch, and Gertrude Stein, this work strives to form a resonance chamber for tone and logic that could sustain an intransitive experience of language. The message here is in the invitation of the title See You Soon a statement of the complexity of two people going in a mutual direction in time, and of camaraderie along the way.

"e;See you soon Caroline!"e;A young English girl, exploring her family history as part of a homework assignment, stumbles across an episode in the life of her family which takes her to the remains of internment camps in the south of France. She learns about the evil and suffering, but also about the courage and heroism which saved her grandfather's life. The story follows Caroline's attempts to discover the truth behind her grandfather's mysterious origins. We follow her to the Shoah Museum in Paris, and to the site of the Drancy camp where thousands of Jews were held before being sent to their deaths in Poland. When she arrives in the south of France she discovers that behind the sunny beaches and relaxed holiday atmosphere there is a dark and unhappy past of suffering, hunger, sickness and death of which most people are unaware. She learns that not only the Jews but Spanish people also suffered here. But all is not gloom. She meets and commences a happy relationship with a local lad who opens her eyes to the hidden history of the region. Together they solve the mystery of her grandfather's family, and the story ends with a dramatic revelation which no-one could have foreseen! This is a book for teenagers and young adults. Although a work of fiction, it is based on the true story of an Irish woman, Mary Elmes, working for the American Quakers in France throughout the Second World War. In 2014 she was honoured by Yad Vashem in the State of Israel as "e;Righteous among the Nations"e;, the first Irish person to receive this honour.Lisa G, an American award-winner film producer says of "e;See you soon, Caroline!"e;I loved "e;See you soon, Caroline!"e; I planned to start with the first chapter and ended up reading the entire novel in two sittings. I found the narrative to be very compelling and cared deeply about all of the characters. Caroline's enthusiasm for and commitment to her family history project, and how she encouraged her entire family to open up to the experience, is so inspiring. I hope "e;See you soon, Caroline"e; encourages young people to talk to their parents and their grandparents, and to get to know their personal histories. And, also, to not make assumptions and fast judgements about other people. This story unfolds like a mystery. The writing was so good that I was able to visualize all of the places Caroline visited with her family. I think it will have great appeal to middle school and high school students because they will find their contemporaries in Caroline, John and Pierre.Another review:The writer has found a great way to tell the story of how Quakers and others helped persecuted Jews in France in World War 2. A schoolgirl is given a project on family history which leads to discoveries about her own background which take her on a fascinating journey to Europe. Teenagers (and older readers) will be gripped by what she uncovers on her trip and who she meets (and grows very fond of!) It would be great if this book was widely read by young people for not only is it a great story but it also has an important message.

"From using clamshell razors and homemade lye depilatories in the colonial era to using diode lasers and prescription pharmaceuricals in the twenty-first century, Americans have gone to great lengths to remove body hair demmed unsightly, unattractive, or unhealthy. In Plucked, Rebecca M. Herzig examines both the causes and consequences of routine hair removal in the U.S. Plucked illuminates some of the broad social and environmental effects of seemingly 'personal' choices: widespread experimentation on animals, exploitation of workers, exacerbation of racial divisions, and more. An engrossing, multidimensional history of fulctural attitudes toward body hair and the increasingly sophisticated tools used to remove it, Plucked reveals the complex political significance of even the most mundane activities of modern life."--Back cover.
