This study indicates that supplemental municipal water supply needs in the San Mateo Coastal Area during the 1975-2075 evaluation period will increase from 7.4 to 43.7 million gallons per day. Total benefits from providing these needs have a present worth (1975) of $44,900,00 (equivalent to an annual value of $1,470,00 per year) including costs of conveyance works. No direct discharge of wastes to surface waters exists at present and local agencies have required that waste effluents be handled by ocean outfalls or land application rather then discharge to streams. It is anticipated that this practice will be continued so that there is no need from stream flow regulation for water quality control in the study area streams.
