Excerpt from Rokeby: The Lord of the Isles; The Bridal of Triermain; Miscellaneous Poems, Indexes, Etc The cause of my failure had, however, a far deeper root. The manner, or style, which, by its novelty, attracted the public in an unusual degree, had now, after having been three times before them, exhausted the patience of the reader, and began in the fourth to lose its charms. The reviewers may be said to have apostrophised the author in the language of Parnell's Edwin. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
