Excerpt from Report of the Chief of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, 1935 At first, in 1932 - 33, cooperating ginners were furnished a copy Of the daily classification sheet Showing how the samples they transmitted were classed. The sheets did not carry the numbers identifying the bales from which the samples had been taken. Because of their interest in the classing activities, these ginners agreed to furnish samples free during the 1933 - 34 season in exchange for daily classification Sheets carrying numbers identifying the bales, although in previous years they had received payment for samples. In 1934 - 35 cooperating ginners again furnished the samples free on the same basis. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Report of the Chief of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, 1933 The ultimate application of an effective land-use program must be largely in terms of specific areas. This requires special study of the conditions, problems, and prospects of particular regions. Such a study was completed last year of land utilization in 13 hill towns of Vermont characterized by extensive farm abandon ment. This study revealed clearly the waste and misery that attend the slow natural adjustment Of an old settled area to the forces of decline and showed forcefully the need for a prompt and energetic program of reorganization with the help of the State. Excerpt from Report of the Chief of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, Fiscal Years 1943-44 Before we can better the condition of our own rural people, we must first preserve the gains they have already made. These are illustrated by the general improvement, during the war, in the financial structure of agriculture. Some of these gains, however, are more apparent than real because of the increased rices of products and land. A boom in land values comparable with t iat of the last war may be in the making. We need to take measures to curb it. Success or lack of success in curbing a land boom may affect the post-war trend of land tenure more than any other single factor.
