Excerpt from Report of the Chief of the Bureau of Agricultural and Industrial Chemistry, Agricultural Research Administration, 1949 Research has begun under 12 new Research and Marketing Act projects since preparation of the last report. Results obtained thus far under 5 of these new projects are discussed in the present report, together with those obtained under 14 of the 35 other Research and Marketing Act projects started previously. One rma project was completed with the construction of the research laboratory at Pasa dena, Calif, which was dedicated on April 14. Further and more detailed information regarding much of the Bureau's work may be found in the 325 publications that were issued during the year. Most of these were research papers, which appeared in scientific and technical journals. Information on newly developed processes and products is given in the specifications of the 98 Govern ment-controlled patents granted during the year to employees of the Bureau. Both publications and patents exceeded in number those of 1948, which in turn exceeded those of any previous year. As compared with the fiscal year 1948, there were 5 percent more publications and 98 percent more patents.
