Ever since the Society for Psychical Research was founded over a hundred years ago, parapsychologists have been attempting to prove the existence of paranormal phenomena - things like clairvoyance, telepathy, precognition, and remote viewing. This research into what is now often called "psi" has become increasingly technical. "Controlled" laboratory experiments have replaced "systematic surveys of spontaneous occurrences"; complicated statistical analyses have replaced anecdotal data. In short, psychical research has aspired to the standards of "hard science."With what results? Ray Hyman is supremely qualified to say. A research psychologist held in the highest esteem by both parapsychologists and skeptics, Ray Hyman here reviews the history and methods of psychical research. The Elusive Quarry is Hyman''s fascinating, fair-minded critique of the field, a book designed not to debunk but to discern. In Part 1, "Parapsychology," Hyman gives us a historical overview: Over the past hundred years, what have been the strongest claims made for the paranormal? Hyman gives close scrutiny to what have been called "ganzfeld experiments," a body of research considered by parapsychologists to be especially compelling. Part 2, "Scientists and the Paranormal," focuses on the scientists themselves - from Michael Faraday and Sir William Crookes in the last century to Helmut Schmidt and his recent work with random-event generators. Scientists have been interacting with an admittedly unique group of people: psychics. Are their methods of testing and reporting appropriate for the phenomena under examination?Hyman steps outside of the laboratory for his book''s third part, "Psychic Phenomena," and evaluates the claims of "water witching," occult healing, and remote viewing. In doing so, he demonstrates that one''s interpretation of scientific data is strongly affected by one''s underlying belief - or lack of belief - in paranormal phenomena. In Part 4, "The Psychology of Belief," Hyman vividly explains "cold reading" - that ability psychics have to convince strangers that they know all about them. It''s an ability anybody can develop, Hyman says. The psychology is common, not psychic.

For 40 years, the author has counseled people with cancer and gained insight into the extent to which the disease reflects the energetic structure of the environment. Again and again, very specific fields and radiations, which even experts are not very familiar with, have proven to be conspicuous. The counselling concept that has emerged from this research is a novelty in its differentiation and success. The book presents the discoveries, the statistics of the problem factors and the ways to eliminate or avoid them. Critical people who want to know and do not subordinate the subject of health to any ideology are addressed as well as professionals who attach importance to technical details and are open to physical radiesthesia. The author's findings document the value of this method, which cannot be replaced by traditional mental methods. A second highlight are the planetary lines and planetary circular fields discovered by the author with their complex aesthetic structure, proven in sacred sites in Europe and Asia. The connections of meaning often touch the soul deeply or simply amaze.

Dowsing and radionics are two practices and procedures for interpreting and interacting with the natural world. They nurture the processes of gardening, farming, and landscaping through communication with subtle levels of reality. Nature spirits and other forms of intelligence in nature play major roles. They can be readily contacted and nourished when we combine psychotronic methods with the traditional practices of a biodynamic approach. George Kuepper describes and discusses numerous procedures that have evolved from decades of working with agricultural radionics and recent research in his biodynamic garden. This guidebook to growing better food is well referenced, with numerous illustrations, photos, tables, and examples. Gardeners and farmers who want to improve their plants and harvests using sustainable methods will find practical help and much food for thought here. "Psychotronics covers a range of modalities (including dowsing and radionics) that can be used to access and study the hidden reality behind our physical world. It provides us with practical means for investigating, navigating, and even changing this reality. Without a doubt, psychotronics is controversial and the amount of misinformation and disinformation surrounding it is dizzying. So, understand that what I'm presenting here is a working paradigm. It will explain how I have come to understand psychotronics and how I am using it." --George Kuepper (from the book) Includes 55 illustrations, diagrams, and charts.

The author of this little book, Madame Marguerite Maury, is a lady of much experience in the teaching of Radiesthesia and in the practice of the art, particularly in its medical application. For many years she was a fully trained nurse and later took up massage in which she obtained conspicuously successful results. Some years ago, she happened to make the acquaintance of M. Louis Turenne, an engineer and a radiesthetist of great repute. Following a remarkable diagnosis of a case of eczema made by him, and its subsequent cure through homoeopathy, Madame Maury was persuaded by M. Turenne to take up the study of Radiesthesia, for he realised that she had a special aptitude in this direction. She developed her powers to the full and tells me that during the course of fifteen years she has carried out more than 70,000 diagnoses and made numerous locations for water and minerals. With the help of some collaborators she founded the College Radiesthesique Francais and drew up a course of instruction by correspondence which has been followed by more than 900 pupils. This series of lessons, to which a section on Medical Radiesthesia has been added, forms the substance of this book. Readers will see that Madame Maury who, previous to becoming a nurse, had studed physics in Vienna, is a firm believer in the purely physical origin of the radiesthetic phenomena, and some may think that her claims in this respect cannot always be justified. For instance, it is difficult to see how location on maps and diagrams, which is now a well-established fact, can be attributed to anything but some obscure stimulus from the sub- conscious mind. Madame Maury very rightly stresses the individual nature of the radiesthetic art, and anyone who has studied the subject from an objective point of view for many years will fully bear her out. However that may be, it is always an advantage for a novice to start on a definite system, though he may find later that he has to depart from it and develop a method better suited to his own personality. A book such as this which deals with Radiesthesia in its widest application and does not advocate unnecessary refinements in instruments and technique, should be of great value as an introduction to a science which is still in a state of evolution.
