Each contribution is an article in itself, and great effort has been made by the authors to be lucid and not too technical. A few brief highlights of the round-table discussions are given between the chapters. Topics include: Quantum non-locality, the measurement problem, quantum insights into relativity, cosmology and thermodynamics, and possible bearings of quantum mechanics to biology and consciousness. Authors include Yakir Aharanov and Anton Zeilinger, plus Nobel laureates Anthony J. Leggett (2003) and Gerardus ‘t Hooft (1999). Foreword written by Sir Roger Penrose, best-selling author (The Emperor's New Mind) and world-renowned mathematical physicist.

During the last decade, scientists working in quantum theory have been engaging in promising new fields such as quantum computation and quantum information processing, and have also been reflecting on the possibilities of nonlinear behavior on the quantum level. These are challenging undertakings because (1) they will result in new solutions to important technical and practical problems that were unsolvable by the classical approaches (for example, quantum computers can calculate problems that are intractable if one uses classical computers); and (2) they open up new 'hard' problems of a fundamental nature that touch the foundation of quantum theory itself (for example, the contradiction between locality and nonlinearity and the interpretation of quantum computing as a universal process). In this book, one can distinguish two main streams of research to approach the just-mentioned problem field: (1) a theoretical structural part, which concentrates on the elaboration of a nonlinear quantum mechanics and the fundamentals of quantum computation; and (2) a theoretical experimental part, which focuses on the theoretical aspects of applications that arise from new technology and novel research perspectives such as quantum optics and quantum cryptography. Particular attention is also paid to the measurement problem, the classical limit and alternative interpretations (such as the hidden measurement approach).

Confucianism, Chinese History and Society is a collection of essays authored by world renowned scholars on Chinese studies, including Professor Ho Peng Yoke (Needham Research Institute), Professor Leo Ou-fan Lee (Harvard University), Professor Philip Y S Leung (Chinese University of Hong Kong), Professor Liu Ts'un-Yan (Australian National University), Professor Tu Wei-Ming (Harvard University), Professor Wang Gungwu (National University of Singapore) and Professor Yue Daiyun (Peking University). The volume covers many important themes and topics in Chinese Studies, including the Confucian perspective on human rights, Nationalism and Confucianism, Confucianism and the development of Science in China, crisis and innovation in contemporary Chinese cultures, plurality of cultures in the context of globalization, and comparative study of the city cultures in modern China. These essays were originally delivered at the Professor Wu Teh Yao Memorial Lectures. Wu Teh Yao (1917–1994) was an educator, political scientist, specialist in Confucianism and original drafter of the United Nation's Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This book provides an interdisciplinary perspective on one of the most fascinating and important open questions in science: What is quantum mechanics talking about? Quantum theory is perhaps our best confirmed physical theory. However, despite its great empirical effectiveness and the subsequent technological developments that it gave rise to in the 20th century, from the interpretation of the periodic table of elements to CD players, holograms and quantum state teleportation, it stands even today without a universally accepted interpretation. The novelty of the book comes from the multiple viewpoints and subjects investigated by a group of researchers from Europe and North and South America.

Theoretical physics has reached an impasse that many feel is a dead end. As the odds of finding evidence for supersymmetry starts to fade, “new” theories have emerged such as “The Multiverse”, “Extra Dimensions”, and “Dimensional Transmutation”. These theories attempt to explain the inexplicable yet at the same time fail to explain the explainable. Many physicists are left frustrated and wondering aloud… How could we have travelled so far down the wrong path? “Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.” ~ Albert Einstein Engineers know that the right answer is usually a simple one. As Einstein would put it, “The grand aim of all science is to cover the greatest number of empirical facts by logical deduction from the smallest number of hypotheses or axioms.” Gordon’s theory of everything starts with only two postulates; the massless bosons called “Gordon Omnipresent Dots” or “GOD entities” and the E0 energy associated with their initial alignment. These primordial postulates are the only building blocks of a model that explains the inevitable course of events that created our universe. The mathematics created within this process corrects the postulates used to develop the theories of relativity and quantum mechanics which can finally be united and subsequently applied to the infinitesimally small and the infinitely large. We currently use parameters such as distance, time, straight lines, velocity, electric charge, energy fields, and mass. Gordon’s theory of everything begins at a time when none of these parameters existed (prior to the Big Bang). It takes nothing for granted as a predestined process unfolds creating these parameters as they come into existence defined by the evolving mathematics. The Gordon model reveals that energy exists in three separate Gordon energy states described by “The GOD equation”. The interaction between these energy states result in the formation of energy fi elds and the creation of all forces. Most importantly, the structure of space-time from the previously unrecognized G0 energy state provides the solid foundation upon which we are able to build a new understanding of everything in the universe. The simplicity and elegance of Gordon’s theory of everything will astonish everyone as everything falls into place. The purpose of this book is to put the field of physics on a theoretically sound foundation. The structures of the first few fundamental particles and the energy fields they generate are just the beginning. You will have the opportunity to make major contributions. Starting where this book leaves off at the up quark and electron, the race is on to find the internal structure of a neutron and all the particles of the standard model. Don’t be left behind…Be among the first to read Scott S Gordon’s, “The GOD Entity: Gordon’s Theory of Everything”
