Excerpt from Proceedings of the Geologists' Association, 1901-1902, Vol. 17 The flints give an excellent idea of the amount Of crushin that has taken place, for they are often shattered into hundreds c fragments, and sometimes the fracturing has been so great as t reduce them to a long-drawn-out line resembling coal dust. Thi is noted by Mr. Strahan in the Survey Memoir on this com Unlike those in the Isle of Wight, the flints on this coast are nc recemented. As in the first paper of this series (kent and Sussex), w shall confine our attention almost entirely to the zoology of th beds under consideration. The physieal features of this distric have been so lucidly and graphically handled by Mr. Strahan i' the Survey Memoir that there is no need, even if we so desirec to go outside the scope of our work to repeat in detail thes observations. For zoological data the reader is referred to D1 Barrois' classical work.f The results of our collecting cause us t differ from him 1n several important particulars, but as we followe up this difficult coast we could not but admire his broad grasp c the subject, and the general accuracy of his conclusions. Excellent accommodation is readily obtained here; but for those who wish to study the landslip alone, perhaps Lyme Regis would be more convenient. Excerpt from Bulletin of the Geological Society of America, 1890, Vol. 1 Transactions of the Association of American Geologists and Naturalists. The inclusion of Naturalists had been determined in 1843. The number of members was seventy-seven. Meetings were also held annually until 1847. The Transactions were published in the American Journal of Science for the corresponding years. In 1847 it was voted to resolve the organization into The American Association for the Advancement Of Science. In such capacity it assembled in Philadelphia, September 20, 1848. Thus the American Association was, in its incipiency, a body of geologists, and its first Constitution was prepared by the geologists assembled in Boston, in 1847. After the creation Of the broader organization, geology shared with the other sciences such facilities as the Association afforded, and on the last reorganization it was recognized (with Geography) as Section E. \vith the numerical growth of the Association, the multiplication of its sec tions, the expanding volume Of its proceedings, the increasing amount of its general business, and the diminished opportunities for scientific work, it began to be felt that the aims of American geology might perhaps be better served by a return to the original status. The question was held under ia formal consideration for several years. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from 1900-1901, the Geology of Minnesota, Vol. 6: Geological Atlas With Synoptical Descriptions With these words the writer lays down his pen; after an unceasing labor Of twenty-eight years on this enterprise. While the survey, and the report in tout ensemble, conform to the conception which he formed when he entered upon the work, yet he is conscious of its numerous defects. And numerous lines of geological research which have not been entered upon. He can, therefore, with strengthened emphasis, repeat the following from the preface Of volume I of this report.
