Included are the military Jeeps; Willys Jeep wagons, pickups, and forward control models; CJ-5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 variants; full-size Jeep Wagoneer, Gladiator, and Cherokee models; the Jeepsters and Commandos; the XJ Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Commanche models; the Wrangler YJ, TJ, and JK models; and finally, the overseas models. Jeeps have an enduring popularity that has spanned decades and generations, from the very first purpose-built military vehicles to the modern mall lot warriors of today. Originally owned by Willys, then AMC, then Chrysler, then Fiat, the Jeep brand has outlived some of the manufacturers that produced them. Jeeps are icons; the brands and the style of the original Jeeps are globally recognized. While having evolved more radically in recent times, they have a universal appeal that persists to this day. Each of the eight chapters covering the models listed will provide interesting facts related to legend and lore, body and interior, engine and driveline, suspension and brakes, and finally number crunching and press commentary. It is the first Jeep book of its kind. Join Jeep expert and historian Foster as he relives everything cool and fun about the Jeep. No Jeeper’s library should be without it.

Farmers saw it as a "devil wagon" but later adopted it for use as an all-around device and power source. What makes a social group change its position about a particular artifact? How did the devil wagon overcome its notoriety to become a prosaic mainstream device? These questions direct the research in this book. While they may have been asked before, author Imes Chiu (PhD, Cornell University) brings a different and refreshing approach to the problem of newness. Preexisting practices and work routines used as explanatory devices have something interesting to say about diffusion strategies and localization measures. This innovative study examines the conversion of users. To understand the motivating factors in mass adoption, the study focuses on perceptions and practices associated with horses and motorcars in three different settings during three different periods. All three cases begin with the motorcar in the periphery: all three end with it achieving ubiquity. This multiple-case design is used for the purpose of theoretical replication. Results in all three cases show that a contrived likeness to its competitor-the horse-contributed to the motorcar's success. The motorcar absorbed the technical, material, structural, and conceptual resources of the technology it displaced. This book, which includes several rare photographs, will be an important resource for those who wish to study the history of transportation and technology adaptation.

Comfort was bottom of the heap of design priorities and all fours seats, and the ride, were hard. But the hastily conceived design was inherently right and over 600,000 were made up to 1945 with endless variations. After the war Willys plugged on with the Jeep in civilian CJ-2A form providing cheap, practical transport in austere times. This is a book of contemporary road tests, technical data, model introductions, military details, camouflage painting, operating details, history. Models covered include:- CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-5, M38, CJ-3B, M606, 381A, 28, 29, 606A2, 606A3, 170, 422, 151.
