Excerpt from Practical Bookbinding On the other hand, some branches of the bookbinder's craft have now become quite distinct, and have developed into special industries, and have so enlarged and extended that even their particular methods of working and technical terms have quite changed. Cardboard goods, leather goods, photo albums, maps, and even account-books are treated by particular firms as specialities. AS we must now keep within clearly defined limits, we shall treat here only the work of bookbinding proper as far as it is concerned with the making Of the book for publisher, bookseller, and buyer, and also the making of account-books, whilst the other work given to the binder, commonly called fancy goods, must be excluded. Excerpt from Manual of Library Bookbinding: Practical and Historical The aim of this Manual is not to supersede the existing treatises on the craft of bookbinding, such as those by Messrs Cockerell and Zaehnsdorf, but to supplement such works by giving prominence to those phases of the subject which are of practical interest to the librarian, and incidentally to the bookbinder who specializes in library binding. An endeavour has been made to give a succinct account of the processes of binding at the present day, by describing the methods of hand and machine binding respectively; to indicate the essential features of library binding; to describe and give actual examples of some of the best and most suitable materials for library binding; to describe the different methods of recording and checking books despatched to the binder; to give practical information on the equipment of small binderies in libraries, and on the repairing of books, as well as to give recipes, miscellaneous information, and a glossary of terms. In preparing this work the Library Associations Professional Examinations were kept in view, with the object of affording information useful to students; for this reason an historical sketch of bookbinding has been included, which, it is hoped, will provide an adequate introduction to the subject, the information being drawn from the best sources. The Art Of Bookbinding: A Practical Treatise With Plates And Diagrams. This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Excerpt from A Note on Bookbinding As this is too expensive for the binding of any books but those of value or of special interest to their owners, the binder has to consider what features he can best modify or leave out in order to lessen the cost. Bookbinding, and the Care of Books: Large Print by Douglas Cockerell It is hoped that this book will help bookbinders and librarians to select sound methods of binding books. It is intended to supplement and not to supplant workshop training for bookbinders. No one can become a skilled workman by reading text-books, but to a man who has acquired skill and practical experience, a text-book, giving perhaps different methods from those to which he has been accustomed, may be helpful. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic work, and that for you it becomes an enriching experience.
