"You Don't Have to be a Prepper to: Be Prepared for a Couple of Weeks" builds on the foundations laid in book 1.1, "You Don't Have to Be a Prepper to: Prepare Your Family for a Grid Disruption". This second handbook, using Maslow's Hierarchy as a loose framework, is oriented on meeting your family's fundamental requirements to navigate a disruption. It also touches on the importance of meeting your higher needs, for these are ones that will help us retain our sanity and human dignity. Just as there would be no orderly progression into, or out of disorder, a person's needs will not increase or decrease linearly or in parallel with others around him. handbook without having read its predecessor, but book 1 does help set the context. Either way, these methods are intended to be simple, low cost/ low impact on your normal life and pursuits. I hope you enjoy working through this and that you and your loved ones will be better off for it.

Why you and your family should be prepared for a disruption to the infrastructure. How you can get started.Simple checklists you can use or modify. We are highly dependent on the complex interactions and dependencies relying on the internet and electricity provided through the grid. My goal is to point you to the numerous risks to this infrastructure that can cause a significant disruption to our lives - all of the support we would lose without power, the potential disorder that could evolve, and most importantly, the reasonable, economic steps you can take to mitigate this risk. The documentation of this risk is available at your fingertips. There is no evidence to the contrary. There are numerous sources of information on what to do to mitigate the risks; unfortunately, the majority of the population ignores them. Accepting this risk and taking small steps to mitigate it will strengthen you and your loved ones as well as contribute to the resilience of your community and our nation.

These Scriptures helped us look and go beyond the shallow and medium waters. "And when He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into the deep waters and let down your nets for a catch [and when they did this, they had caught a great number of fish]" (Luke 5:4-6, comment mine). Also Luke 5:4, "Push out into the deep waters." In the beginning of our ministry, we thought of the colonia as shallow waters. It was just over the border with easy access to United States. We referred to the interior ministry as medium waters. There was much travel involved going from mission to mission, and there were dangers and unknowns. Deep waters referred to extending our missionary work in Mexico to a Huasteco Indian tribe, around ten hours from the United States border in the state of San Louis Potosi, specifically the Quayalab Junla (Mountainous Jungle). The people, another culture, and another language were very closed and had rejected all missionaries who wanted to evangelize on the mountain. But the door opened for us. We had opposition from many, including our home church, remembering them saying, "Ray and Connie, you are getting in too deep; to stay in the colonia." The church was happy with our missionary activity in the colonia. My book is dedicated to those who follow the Lord wholeheartedly and to those who refuse to remain in the shallow and medium waters.

A provocative and urgent essay collection that asks how we can live with hope in “an age of ecocide” Paul Kingsnorth was once an activist—an ardent environmentalist. He fought against rampant development and the depredations of a corporate world that seemed hell-bent on ignoring a looming climate crisis in its relentless pursuit of profit. But as the environmental movement began to focus on “sustainability” rather than the defense of wild places for their own sake and as global conditions worsened, he grew disenchanted with the movement that he once embraced. He gave up what he saw as the false hope that residents of the First World would ever make the kind of sacrifices that might avert the severe consequences of climate change. Full of grief and fury as well as passionate, lyrical evocations of nature and the wild, Confessions of a Recovering Environmentalist gathers the wave-making essays that have charted the change in Kingsnorth’s thinking. In them he articulates a new vision that he calls “dark ecology,” which stands firmly in opposition to the belief that technology can save us, and he argues for a renewed balance between the human and nonhuman worlds. This iconoclastic, fearless, and ultimately hopeful book, which includes the much-discussed “Uncivilization” manifesto, asks hard questions about how we’ve lived and how we should live.

BOOKER PRIZE WINNER • NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A novel that follows a middle-aged man as he contends with a past he never much thought about—until his closest childhood friends return with a vengeance: one of them from the grave, another maddeningly present. A novel so compelling that it begs to be read in a single setting, The Sense of an Ending has the psychological and emotional depth and sophistication of Henry James at his best, and is a stunning achievement in Julian Barnes's oeuvre. Tony Webster thought he left his past behind as he built a life for himself, and his career has provided him with a secure retirement and an amicable relationship with his ex-wife and daughter, who now has a family of her own. But when he is presented with a mysterious legacy, he is forced to revise his estimation of his own nature and place in the world.
