This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1907 edition. Excerpt: ... to a lawyer's duty to defend a prisoner charged with crime, whom counsel believes to be guilty. The author's conclusions are: It is the duty of an attorney to defend one charged with crime, though he be convinced that the prisoner is guilty; but in conducting such a defense the lawyer should not go any further than to see that the party is convicted in strict accordance with the rules of law, and by a fair and impartial trial. The book is designed as a text-book for law school classes and is well adapted to its purpose. At the same time the busy, practical lawyer will read many of its pages with profit. The lawyer will be amused, the imperfect judge benefited by reading of these judicial foibles. In Foibles of the Bar Mr. Wilcox has in his characteristic terse and lively style illustrated some of the common mistakes of lawyers which tend to diminish their success at the bar. On an amusing...
