Pelli Clarke Pelli, founded in 1977 by Cesar Pelli, is an architectural office of worldwide renown. They are known in particular for their elegant and technically advanced tower designs. These are usually characterized by taut, seamless envelopes without exposed profiles – their visual structure is achieved by subtly staggered forms or variations in the color or materiality of the façade glazing. The unusual offi ce structure of Pelli Clarke Pelli informs the work: an almost craft-like perception of architectural design and a close personal relation with the client are typical for their approach. A model-making workshop within the offi ce helps to fi nd the appropriate form. Many projects also fulfi l urbanistic roles: They create urban spaces or act as iconic landmarks within the city fabric. The publication encompasses a selection of works from the past eight years. Amongst the documented projects are Bloomberg Tower in New York, Minneapolis Central Library, Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco, National Museum of Art in Osaka, Xiao Bai Lo Tower in Tianjin and Torre Cajasol in Sevilla.

"Pelli focuses on the unique position of architecture among the arts. He analyzes eight "connections" that influence both the artistic and practical aspects of architecture: time, construction, place, purpose, culture, design process, constituency, and oneself. Pelli discusses each connection, drawing on historic and contemporary examples, and then turns to first-person commentary, illustrating his experiences with his own buildings and projects, including such important buildings as Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (the world's tallest buildings), the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, and Washington National Airport."--Jacket.

Founded in 1977, Pelli Clarke & Partners (PC&P) is an international architecture practice based in New Haven, Connecticut, and New York City. From the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) to World Financial Center, César Pelli led the firm through many pivotal moments, and his legacy continues to resonate and inspire all of PC&P's subsequent work, as explored in the projects presented in this publication. Outlined in 4 thematic sections - Partnerships, Urbanity, Envelope, and Public Realm - selected buildings and spaces designed by PC&P, from its formative years to today, illustrate how the firm nurtures sustainable collaborations and makes meaningful connections and contributions to communities and cities, while expressing sensitivity to purpose and place. This monograph not only serves as a tribute to César Pelli, but also represents a new chapter of PC&P's vision for its future led by interdisciplinary teams of architects, designers, and technical experts across the globe. Text in English and Japanese.
