In this sumptuously printed, large-format publication, distinguished Magnum photographers Paolo Pellegrin and Alex Majoli present a collaborative document of the Congo and its people. Bringing together the best of each photographers personal styles as well as experimental forays into abstraction and collage, this volume captures what Alain Mabanckou describes as a full range of the landscape, from urban scenes to great forests and back, reflecting the way it is in most African societies today. With no captions or individual photo credits, the densely printed imagespresented on full-bleed pages, as gatefolds, or as double-spread gatefoldsbecome wholly immersive. Mabanckou writes in his introduction that, for the duration of this project [the photographers] must have become full-time Congolese, living with the people in cities and in villages, sharing their joys and sorrows, crossing rivers and floods, stepping over public garbage bins, mingling with crowds of wildly excited children, roaming the banks of tributaries and streams, watching the endurance of the river dock workers. The outcome is a profound study of Congo, and the resulting object exemplifies the expressive possibilities of contemporary documentary photography. The proceeds of the sale of this book go to Lynx for Hope, a non-profit dedicated to cultural development programs.

Driven by a relentless obsession to translate this rather immaterial subject into images, Paolo Woods and Gabriele Galimberti have spent over two years travelling to the offshore centres that embody tax avoidance, secrecy, offshore banking and extreme wealth. Their photographs reveal a world of exploitation and privilege that distorts the financial markets and benefits those that already have the most. The book is presented as if it were an annual report and the accompanying text by author Nicholas Shaxson presents a clear insight into how these tax havens work.

In the early 1960s, Constantine Manos spent three years living in Greece and working as a photographer under the auspices of the prestigious agency Magnum Photos. A Greek Portfolio represents an impromptu pictorial account of Manos's travels through rural Greece and the Greek islands. The strength of these black-and-white duotone images, taken in small country villages and on secluded farms, lies in their portrayal of a way of life that had remained virtually unchanged for centuries before finally being overtaken by the modern world-a way of life that may strike viewers as at once humble and exalted in its quiet dignity and beauty. A Greek Portfolio was first published in 1972; the limited first edition has since become a much sought-after collector's item. Upon publication, the work received awards at Arles and at the Leipzig Book Fair. This new edition has been enhanced through the addition of eight previously unpublished images and a new foreword. A traveling exhibition of prints in this country will coincide with the publication of the new edition. There will also be a major exhibition at the Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece. Images from this work are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris.

Ex-cop Winnie Farlowe has been retired from police work due to a back injury, and has been fighting the bottle instead of bad guys ever since. But suddenly he meets Tess Binder, a stunning, three-time divorcée from the Balboa Bay Club where wallets are fat, bikinis are skimpy, and cosmetic surgery is one sure way to a billionaire's bank account. She believes her father's suicide was actually a murder and wants Winnie to help her prove it. Death and chicanery flourish amidst ranches, mansions, and yachting parties. Publishers Weekly called it "comic and deeply moving . . . a stupendous climax . . . virtually sure to be hailed as Wambaugh's best." And the San Diego Union-Tribune said, "a profoundly serious work and in reading it I laughed my head off."
