Excerpt from Oil Firing for Kitchen Ranges and Steam Boilers The principal object now in view is to give a brief description of the combustion of heavy residues or fuel oil in a cooking range for culinary purposes. Some general remarks on the production of crude petroleum and fuel oil, together with other information relating thereto, is included, as, comparatively speaking, the average householder or hotel proprietor knows littler or nothing of oil for firing purposes. Previous to the war, fuel oil had not been used in the kitchen as far as the author is aware, and it was entirely due to the great scarcity and high cost of coal, brought about by war conditions, that means were devised for firing kitchen ranges with similar residues to those that are used for firing purposes in the furnaces of steam generators. There are many excellent liquid-fuel burners on the market for steam-raising and other purposes, but neither in design nor method of application do they conform with the exacting requirements of the domestic kitchen, in simplicity, reliability, cleanliness, and range of power. For the kitchen range, a burner that will give a continuous flame of small dimensions is a necessity. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
