DOWNLOAD EBOOK →Excerpt from Norwegian Grammar and Reader: With Notes and Vocabulary This book is an attempt to produce a practical manual for students that desire to gain access to Norwegian literature. It is designed not only for the class-room, but also to meet the demands of Americans endeavoring by means of self-instruction to acquire a knowledge of the language, and, furthermore, to serve as a guide to that increasingly large number of persons of Norwegian parentage, who, having some knowledge of spoken Norwegian, desire to know something of Norwegian literature. The wants of these various classes are somewhat different, it is true, and the effort to satisfy them within the limits of one moderate-sized volume has presented many difficulties. Omissions and eliminations have been necessary. No doubt some will feel that the book should have contained a series of exercises for translation into Norwegian. The space devoted to the Reader, Notes and Vocabulary has prohibited this, in conformity with the essential idea of the book, that of being an introduction to the literature of Norway. But the Grammar does contain a large number of carefully translated illustrative sentences, which, to the skillful instructor, and even to the eager student, may serve the purpose of the more formal exercises; for they have been chosen with the double view of laying something of a foundation for a speaking knowledge of the language, and of giving the beginner some familiarity with the essentials of the language before attempting the Reader, especially if he does not have the assistance of an instructor. DOWNLOAD EBOOK →One of the hardest, yet most important parts of learning a language is to memorize the verbs. It can be a difficult task, but the more you know the better you become at speaking Norwegian. In this book we have collected the 100 most useful Norwegian verbs you need to be able to speak the language. There is no plyndring (to plunder), refundering (to refund) or utkontraktering (outsourcing) in this book; only the 100 most useful words that will get you through 99% of your conversations. The verbs are presented in the four most used tenses; Presens, presens perfektum, preteritum and presens futurum combined with I, you, he/she/it, we, you and they. This way you will be able to talk about things that has happened, is happening or will happen to just about anyone. In addition, there are 4 example-sentences given for each verb, making sure you understand it properly in all 4 tenses. After learning my 3rd language I realized the importance of focusing on the right aspects of the language. In order to reach the level where you can have conversations, and ask "what does this and that mean" in order to progress, you will need a solid foundation. It takes time, effort and repetition, but if you focus on the verbs Norwegians actually use in their daily life, you will progress much faster and reach fluency before you can say Brunost.
