This book was first projected in 2004, when Author Hannah Fairbairn was teaching interpersonal skills at the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, Massachusetts. The experiences of her adult students—and her own experience of sight lost—convinced her that everyone losing vision needs access to good information about the process of adjustment to losing sight and practical ways to use assertive speech. The purpose of this book is to understand the experiences of persons who are visually impaired, including those who are invisibly visually impaired. Through the use of a survey questionnaire and interviews and employing a cross-sectional survey design, the study examines the experiences of a large number of visually impaired respondents. The research largely examines how visual impairment affects the performance of the visually impaired "actor" in relationships and social interaction. To perform successfully, the visually impaired actor must be able to adapt to and perform competently within his or her assigned role, establish and maintain mutually satisfying relationships with other social actors, and know how to prepare for and manage the potential responses of the audience. The author employs a social performance perspective to examine how a visual impairment affects the individual's self-concept, ability to initiate and maintain satisfying relationships, and interact successfully, The appendix contains a wealth of supplementary information, including the actual survey instrument and its rationale, the theoretical model guiding the survey research, the interview procedures and protocol, and the correlation matrix. Like these, it plays with time to recount stories linked by a terrible incident, i.e, here the unintentional shooting of an American traveller by two Moroccan children. Its title obviously refers to the Genesis episode occurring in the city of Babel: Noah and his sons want to erect a tower to reach the skies but they soon get punished by God who creates different languages dividing human beings. As language is the fundamental source of any interchange, one may conclude from the title that the first topic Babel sets out is related to communication. This essay aims to display how the film deals with this latter theme with reference to, first, the narrative structure and, finally, some audacious film techniques. Since this paper is limited, we will only discuss this issue from a broad perspective.
